Motherkind
Zoe Blaskey
Motherkind is the podcast for women who know that motherhood changes everything — and want to grow forward, not “bounce back”. Hosted by Zoe Blaskey, Motherkind explores the profound personal, emotional and professional transformation that happens when you become a mother. This is a space for women navigating the wild, identity-shifting years of motherhood who want to reclaim confidence, redefine ambition, and build a life that works for who they are now. Each week, Zoe sits down with world-leading experts, thought leaders, psychologists, authors and well-known figures to unpack the real experiences of modern motherhood — from matrescence and identity loss to confidence, boundaries, work, relationships and self-worth. Expect honest conversations, evidence-based insight and practical tools that help you move through this season with clarity and strength. Motherkind is not about doing more, fixing yourself, or returning to who you were before children. It’s about becoming who you are now — with intention, compassion and growth. If you’re a mother who wants to feel more like herself again — confident, grounded and excited about what’s next — this is your place. Motherkind: for the woman behind the mother.

How to find more peace in daily life with Rupert Spira
Jun 30, 2022 56 minHey everyone and welcome back to Motherkind. The show that is going to help you navigate the massive challenges of motherhood (and life) with more acceptance, ease, joy and purpose. This week’s episode is slightly different. It is with writer and spiritual teacher, Rupert Spira. I'm so keen to share with you on this podcast voices, experiences and ideas from a really broad range of experts. It's such a joy for me to contemplate all of these different ideas and how they can help us on our journeys as mothers. I loved this chat with Rupert. I'm not gonna lie, it was deeply confronting for me at times and a little bit like a personal one-to-one session, but ultimately really beautiful. Rupert said something I can’t stop thinking about since our recording, he said that: The most important thing we can do as parents is to model how we handle emotions and that that's way more powerful than anything we could ever teach or say. So whether you are deep into a spiritual quest or you have absolutely no idea what to expect from this chat, I think by the end you're gonna be left with a feeling of calm. My intention with this episode is to tap into curiosity, open-mindedness and wonder - Those can be powerful qualities - asking yourself what if I tried this, what would I experience? What would that be like? As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. MOMENT | How to stop guilt in its tracks with Dr Sophie Brock
Jun 20, 2022 3 minWelcome back to Motherkind Moment. Moment is your place on a Monday for calm and connection and maybe even a shift in perspective before the week ahead. This week’s Moment is with the brilliant Dr Sophie Brock. She is a motherhood studies sociologist. She literally has a PhD in motherhood. In this powerful clip, Dr Sophie shares why so much of our guilt isn’t ours at all, but is driven by our societal expectations about what we think we should be doing. And that is where the guilt comes in. The most important thing we have to do with guilt is hold it up to the light - don’t ignore it, don’t push it away -ask yourself do I feel guilty because I stepped out of my own values or is it because I have absorbed these messages about what I think I should be doing? Challenge and question your guilt. It is so powerful to be aware that the majority of our guilt is driven by what we think we should be doing instead of what we really want to be doing. I hope you really love this short clip. You can listen to the clip by clicking above or the full episode here. ABOUT DR SOPHIE BROCK Dr. Sophie Brock is a Motherhood Studies Sociologist and Mother living in Sydney, Australia. Sophie supports professionals, business owners and creatives in revolutionising what Motherhood means in our society, and how individual Mothers are supported and understood. How I transformed my idea of fatherhood and found true happiness with Bodé Aboderin
Jun 16, 2022 48 minHi everyone, and welcome to this special Father's Day episode on the Motherkind podcast. This is the show that's going to help you navigate the massive challenges of motherhood and, this week, fatherhood with more acceptance, ease, joy, and purpose. Thanks to each and every one of you that come back every week to listen, learn and feel inspired. It's father's day here in the UK on the 19th of June. And I am so excited about this episode. It is a powerful one. My guest is Bodé Aboderin (AKA Papa B). He is a writer, speaker, businessman, and stay-at-home dad. His wife is the amazing Candice Brathwaite, who has also been on the podcast. So check out that episode, if you haven't listened to it already Bodé is on a mission. He says we need a new way of thinking about masculinity and fatherhood. And he says it's vital that men unpack their beliefs about what it means to be a man and a father or else they risk perpetuating this old really stifling idea of masculinity. Bodé’s story is one of transformation. He shares how he used to believe being a man meant, earning more, not showing his feelings and having this unpenetrable mask of masculinity. Hitting rock bottom, he had a breakthrough that led him to totally transform how he sees his role as a man and a father. And that is what we talk about in this episode. It is incredibly powerful and I really, really hope that this is going to be one that you're going to share with the men in your life. Within minutes of recording it, I sent it to my husband, Guy. Urging him in all caps to please listen. His new book called Fatherhood, is brilliantly written, it's relatable, it's compassionate, and it is a credible call to arms for the men in our lives. I think you're also going to cry at the gift that he would give to all fathers. If you love the podcast, please do me a favour and subscribe. It really does help. I really hope you enjoy this father's day special episode. Here it is. As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR SPONSOR GYMONDO Studies show that regular exercise not only builds your physical strength, but also boosts your mood, reduces stress and increases self-esteem. Bode’s debut book, ‘Fatherhood by Papa B’ was released in June and addresses fatherhood in such a way that is hard-working, practical and incredibly down-to-earth. This week’s guest is, me, being interviewed by Arianna who hosts the brilliant Pachamama podcast. We dive into so many helpful topics: Self-compassion, pressure, control and surrender - why it is so hard to do but so important Power of little steps Why self-awareness needs to come before self-care I coach Arianna through the fog of being a sleep-deprived mother I have been thinking a lot recently about the idea that because motherhood is so tough, it gives us an opportunity to learn so much. In a way, motherhood breaks us and then makes us. What do you think about this? As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. ABOUT ARIANNA AND PACHAMAMA Arianna started Pachamama because she wanted to create a supportive hub for women, as they transition into motherhood. Because motherhood is hard. Pregnancy is hard. And those hardships shouldn’t have to be faced alone. The cost of holding it all together with Anna Mathur
Jun 2, 2022 50 minWelcome to the Motherkind podcast. The show that is going to help you navigate the massive challenges of motherhood and life with more acceptance, joy, ease and purpose. Thanks to each and every one of you that come back every week to listen, learn and feel inspired. If you love the podcast, please do me a favour and subscribe. It really does help. This week’s guest is the lovely Anna Mathur, psycho-therapist, best-selling author and mum of three. I’m also very grateful to be able to say a good friend of mine and a massive supporter of the podcast. This is Anna’s 3rd time on the show and we recorded this episode to celebrate the launch of her 3rd book the Little Book of Calm for New Mums. It’s a fantastic book and I highly recommend it. Let me ask you a question: How often do you hold it all together, push through and keep it going? I think we all do that to some extent, and in some ways we have to. As Anna shares in the episode, from her own incredibly humbling experience with burnout, there is a cost to doing that and we first need to recognise that and then think differently about what we need to do to support ourselves. Anna is amazing. I know lots of you already know and love her. This is a really powerful episode and I know you are going to love it. How to take our dreams as mothers more seriously with Helen Glover MBE
May 5, 2022 39 minWelcome to the week’s episode of the podcast. Thank you for being here and pressing play. I really appreciate you. This is a very inspiring episode with the Olympic rower Helen Glover MBE. This story is incredible. After winning gold in Rio in 2016, Helen decided to hang up her rows, step away from rowing, and start a family. She now has 3 children, but the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown brought on a change in perspective. And despite not having stepped foot in a boat since Rio four years earlier, Helen decided to take a shot at a third Olympics in Tokyo. What happens next is incredible. Not because I want to start rowing or because I want to be a leading sportswoman, but because this episode is really about taking our dreams very seriously as mothers. And I think that is something we don’t do enough. It is being really intentional about the trade-offs we are willing to make for the big things we want to do in life. I ask her at the end what is harder: training for the Olympics or motherhood. I think her answer will surprise you. I hope you love this episode. As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. Glover only took up rowing in 2008 and won a historic gold medal at the Olympic Games in London just four years later. Her outstanding women’s pair partnership with Heather Stanning became the first British female rowers to successfully defend an Olympic title when they won gold at Rio 2016. That completed a perfect Olympiad for Glover in the pair – she won every race she competed in and claimed a hat-trick of world titles, one with Polly Swann and two with Stanning. How one family achieved the unimaginable with Zain Asher
Apr 21, 2022 45 minWelcome to this episode of the Motherkind podcast. Thank you for listening. I really do appreciate it. My guest is Zain Asher. Zain is a CNN anchor and mother of 2. She is also the author of an incredible new book called Where the children take us. It tells the story of her mother’s harrowing fight to raise four children as a widowed immigrant in South London. Zain tells us in this episode how her mother teachers her children to overcome the daily pressures of poverty, crime and prejudice and how with her relentless support her children exceed all expectations. Listen to this about Zain and her siblings, one becomes a CNN anchor (Zain), another an oscar-nominated actor, another doctor, and another a thriving entrepreneur. It is an incredible story. It is also a conversation about values and culture. Speaking with Zain made me reflect very deeply on my own parenting and it made me ask myself what are the most important values in our family and how do we live those. I really hope this episode moves and inspires you. As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there.
