Motherkind
Zoe Blaskey
Motherkind is the podcast for women who know that motherhood changes everything — and want to grow forward, not “bounce back”. Hosted by Zoe Blaskey, Motherkind explores the profound personal, emotional and professional transformation that happens when you become a mother. This is a space for women navigating the wild, identity-shifting years of motherhood who want to reclaim confidence, redefine ambition, and build a life that works for who they are now. Each week, Zoe sits down with world-leading experts, thought leaders, psychologists, authors and well-known figures to unpack the real experiences of modern motherhood — from matrescence and identity loss to confidence, boundaries, work, relationships and self-worth. Expect honest conversations, evidence-based insight and practical tools that help you move through this season with clarity and strength. Motherkind is not about doing more, fixing yourself, or returning to who you were before children. It’s about becoming who you are now — with intention, compassion and growth. If you’re a mother who wants to feel more like herself again — confident, grounded and excited about what’s next — this is your place. Motherkind: for the woman behind the mother.

Why our family secrets need to be told with Galit Atlas
Oct 13, 2022 49 minI have an incredible episode for you today. My guest, Dr. Galit Atlas, is a psychoanalyst, clinical supervisor in private practice in New York City and a leader in the field of relational psychoanalysis. Her new book Emotional Inheritance is now being translated into 17 languages. In this episode, We talk about Emotional inheritance, which is the name Galit gives to the trauma passed down to us from previous generations. As you might know, I am fascinated, passionate and really curious about generational work, specifically how pain gets passed down the generations. And while it can be a hard topic, for sure, I think it's ultimately really freeing to see ourselves as part of a way bigger picture of our lineage. It's just not talked about enough with parents and mothers. I've done some amazing episodes on this topic, a couple that really stand out are with Gabor Mate and Julia Samuel, so definitely go back and listen to those if you haven't already. MOMENT | This is how you know you’re a cycle breaker with Shelley Robinson
Oct 10, 2022 12 minWelcome back to Motherkind Moment. Moment is your place on a Monday for calm, connection and maybe even a shift in perspective before the week ahead. If you have followed me, the podcast, or my work for a while, you will know that I’m deeply passionate and interested in cycle-breaking - understanding what our own childhoods were like, what were the messages we received and what beliefs did we pick up. And then asking ourselves, Do we want to change any of those for our own families now that we are parents ourselves? This week’s Moment is a brilliant insight into: What it means to be a cycle-breaker How you know if you are a cycle-breaker How do you know which cycles you want to break How do we navigate that when we are around our extended family I get asked these questions all the time, so I asked Shelley and her answer is part of this episode. If you haven’t listened to the full episode I highly recommend it. You can listen to the clip by clicking above or the full episode here. ABOUT SHELLY ROBINSON Shelly Robinson is a certified holistic family wellness coach, cycle-breaker, conscious parenting educator, and the creator of Raising Yourself. Her passion in life is to empower moms to turn their midlife crisis into midlife magic by teaching them how to reparent themselves, disrupt generational patterns, and take radically good care of their needs. When she's not connecting with her online community or geeking out on the latest neuroscience of cycle-breaking, she's likely making a mess in the kitchen with her two kids, trying to find her way out from under a pile of laundry, or decompressing with a good mystery in bed. Oct 3, 2022 7 minWelcome back to Motherkind Moment. Moment is your place on a Monday for calm, connection and maybe even a shift in perspective before the week ahead. Today’s Moment is with well-being expert Richie Norton from an episode back in July 2021. We all know what is good for us. Why is it so hard to actually make these things stick? Yet I can find it so hard to make it into a habit that sticks. That is exactly what I asked Richie and what you are about to hear is his answer. How good people mess up their marriages with Matthew Fray
Sep 29, 2022 59 minHey everyone, welcome to this episode of the Motherkind podcast, the show that's going to help you navigate the massive challenges of life as a modern mother with more confidence and clarity. This week's episode is all about relationships. That is what we're going to be talking about with the brilliant author Matt Fray. So you think you're a good person, you genuinely love your partner and you try to do the right thing. So why are you struggling in your relationship? Why do you and your partner feel unhappy? Why do you maybe feel disconnected? Or perhaps you've even thought about divorce? These are the exact questions that he asked himself after his marriage had ended. He was a good guy. He loved his wife, he was doing what he thought he should, be doing in a relationship. And yet one day his wife came to him and asked for a divorce. After that, Matt began a journey of self reflection to understand what went wrong. He wrote a now viral article called My wife divorced me, because I left dishes by the sink, and then a best selling book called This is how your marriage ends. What he learned is incredible. And I think pretty life-changing stuff. He saw that what happens in most relationships, particularly in relationships of good people who really do love each other, is that we engage in a series of small habits and dynamics that over time, erode safety and trust. We talk about: the questions he asked himself after his marriage had ended how good people can become good partners habits that kill relationships how to build safety, trust, and life long love I absolutely love this episode, Matt was a joy to talk to you and I was writing ferocious notes as we spoke. I am sure you're gonna love it. SPECIAL THANKS TO ATHLETIC GREENS - THIS WEEK’S SPONSOR We are grateful to Athletic Greens for sponsoring this episode of the Motherkind podcast. How to finally stop feeling overwhelmed with Oliver Burkeman
Sep 22, 2022 50 minRecently I was on holiday and I saw at least three women around the pool reading the book, Four Thousand Weeks, time management for mortals by Oliver Burkeman. Turns out the average person only has 4k weeks on earth. It doesn’t sound like much does it? That made me decide to read the book and I loved it. Oliver Burkeman is a best-selling author, keynote speaker and for many years he wrote a popular column for the Guardian, which you may have heard of, 'This Column Will Change Your Life'. This episode is about making the most of our radically finite lives in a world of impossible demands and relentless distractions. That basically describes my day-to-day. Oliver shares with us positive psychology that can help us overcome the overwhelm, make better choices and build a more meaningful relationship with time. He says that time management doesn’t mean becomming more productive, it means deciding what to neglect. And once we realise we can never fit everything in we actually then get the freedom to prioritise. This episode is for you if you always feel like there is never enough time, you are always running behind and have an endless to-do list. This conversation may offer the most useful time management tool you can incorporate into your life. If there is someone in your life who you think can benefit from this wisdom, please do share it across your favourite social media platforms. Let’s get this incredible information to as many mothers as we can. As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. We need a revolution in motherhood: here's why with Beth Berry
Sep 15, 2022 49 minThis week’s guest says we can’t afford to pretend to love motherhood. Not this version of it. The version that has us raising our kids alone in our homes, disconnected from one another, immersed in a culture of judgement and perfectionism under the allusion that we are the ones who can’t get our act together. Beth Berry is a coach, author of Motherwhelmed and mother to four daughters. This episode is a call to arms to start taking your needs seriously. We just can’t keep giving and giving to our paid and unpaid work as mothers and carers and not expect ourselves to get burnt out and resentful. And, ending up, of course, adoring our children, but hating our day-to-day lives. I really hope this episode gives you the fire you need to start giving yourself even a small amount of what you give outwards. If there is someone in your life who you think can benefit from this wisdom, please do share it across your favourite social media platforms. Let’s get this incredible information to as many mothers as we can. As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. BECKY KENNEDY Dr. Kennedy is a clinical psychologist, mom of three, and founder of Good Inside. When she first started out, she practiced a popular behavior-first, reward-and-punishment model of parent coaching. But after a while, something struck her: those methods felt awful — for kids and parents. So she got to work, taking everything she knew about attachment, mindfulness, emotion regulation, and internal family systems theory, and translated those ideas into a new method for working with parents. Re-release: How to raise emotionally healthy children with Dr. Anne Lane
Aug 25, 2022 47 minWelcome to this week’s episode of the Motherkind podcast. I am so happy you are here. Thank you for pressing play and listening. As you may now by now, In August I take a break to re-charge and reconnect with my family. This month I release our most popular episodes over the past six months. In honour of children’s mental health week back in February, I spoke with Dr. Anne Lane about raising emotionally healthy children. This is an incredible episode and I can see why it is one of our top 3 most downloaded. This is one of those episodes that I wish that every single parent could listen to. I truly believe if every parent could listen to this, we would make things radically different for ourselves and our children. Anne is a clinical psychologist working with children, teens and adults. She has a new book out called Nurture your child’s emotional intelligence: Five steps to help your children cope with big emotions and build resilience. If that isn’t the most important thing in the world, then I don’t know what is. What I learned most from this episode is that life is incredibly messy and what we need to do is help ourselves and our children be ok with that. Isn’t that what emotional health really is all about? Anne is open, honest and fantastically breaks down questions that I know we all have on our minds. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN ABOUT: Why emotions are contagious and what to do about that How to help both yourself and children put words to emotions How to communicate hard things with our children Why Anne thinks anxiety and depression are on the rise for our children and what we can do early on as parents I think you are going to love this one and want to share it. Re-release: How to create a beautiful relationship with your child - that lasts forever with Jess, Our Mama Village
Aug 18, 2022 55 minWelcome to this episode of the Motherkind podcast. I am so happy you are here. Thank you for pressing play and listening. Throughout August I have a break from recording new episodes to re-set, take a breather and re-connect with the family. We do however over this period re-release the most downloaded episodes from the past six months. And this week’s is brilliant. It is with Jess VanderWier who is a registered Psychotherapist, family and child therapist and founder of Our Mama Village, which has a massive one million Instagram followers. I absolutely loved this episode. I cried and got really emotional at the end when Jess describes her grandmother. It instantly connected me to a sense of perspective and what’s important. I feel like I constantly need that reminder to get out of the weeds of my day-to-day life and stress and to think about the big picture and this episode did it for me. I discovered Jess on Instagram and loved her compassion and her deep experience with families. This is an episode about gentle parenting and we talk about what that means. It’s also about the bigger picture so we are going to dive in together about why we might want to look into our values as parents and have a think about how we are parenting. In our busy lives, from the moment our eyes open to the moment our heads hit the pillow, it can just feel like go go go. It is so easy to forget to maintain perspective and the bigger picture of why your role as a parent is so important and how to navigate all the tricky parts with more grace and ease. I especially loved it when Jess talks about the seasons of parenthood and how to know when is the time to survive, to grit your teeth and get through it. And when is the right time to do that deeper work into what might be coming up for us as we go through the challenges of parenthood. What she shares is absolutely brilliant. IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN ABOUT: What is gentle parenting Why we might want to look into our values as parents and have a think about how we are parenting The seasons of parenthood and how to know when to survive or do the deeper work Keeping it all in perspective What does punishment-free parenting look like GROUP COACHING PROGRAMME - STARTS 14th OF SEPTEMBER 2022 Our next round of group coaching starts on the 14th of September. Re-release: World-leading psychologist on why motherhood is the challenge of a lifetime with Dr. Rick Hanson
Aug 4, 2022 1h 5mWelcome to this episode of the Motherkind podcast. This week we are re-releasing this episode with the incredible Dr. Rick Hanson. Throughout August I have a break from recording new episodes to reset, take a breath and reconnect with the family. During this period, we re-release the most downloaded episodes from the past 6 months. This episode with Dr. Rick Hanson came out in January 2022 and it instantly spoke to so many of you. I received 100s of emails and DMs about it from our listeners. So much resonates with me in this episode, particularly about the need to take the pressure off ourselves and how to do that. Dr. Rick is one of the world’s leading psychologists and he says it’s imperative we recognise the pressures we are under as mothers so we can support ourselves and ask for the support we need from others. Back in 2002, he wrote the seminal book Mother Nurture because he saw his own wife, a happy healthy woman, becoming clinically depleted after having children. And with his decades of experience as a psychologist, he felt called to support mothers. This episode is incredible. Every word Dr. Rick says is like gold. You are going to finish this episode feeling so much more self-compassion and ease and hopefully be kinder to yourself. In this episode you’ll learn about: Practical ideas of how to reduce stress from Motherhood An analogy that made me cry His life-changing words about the impact of the pandemic As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there.
