Motherkind
Zoe Blaskey
Motherkind is the podcast for women who know that motherhood changes everything — and want to grow forward, not “bounce back”. Hosted by Zoe Blaskey, Motherkind explores the profound personal, emotional and professional transformation that happens when you become a mother. This is a space for women navigating the wild, identity-shifting years of motherhood who want to reclaim confidence, redefine ambition, and build a life that works for who they are now. Each week, Zoe sits down with world-leading experts, thought leaders, psychologists, authors and well-known figures to unpack the real experiences of modern motherhood — from matrescence and identity loss to confidence, boundaries, work, relationships and self-worth. Expect honest conversations, evidence-based insight and practical tools that help you move through this season with clarity and strength. Motherkind is not about doing more, fixing yourself, or returning to who you were before children. It’s about becoming who you are now — with intention, compassion and growth. If you’re a mother who wants to feel more like herself again — confident, grounded and excited about what’s next — this is your place. Motherkind: for the woman behind the mother.

Dr Rangan Chatterjee
Dec 29, 2020 59 minDr. Rangan Chatterjee joins me on the podcast, and we jump right into a very honest and passionate conversation from the start. He believes that everyone has the ability to feel better. The solution isn’t always in a pill. It’s a lifestyle prescription. And, he’s taking a stand: people are needlessly suffering and this is preventable and unacceptable. After many years of seeing patients, he has come to the realisation that all of us can feel much better than we currently do and good health is accessible to every single one of us. He’s written four books and his latest, Feel Great Lose Weight, offers a simple five-step plan to feel better, sleep well and move more. I read every single word of this book and loved it. This book has so much power and richness in it. And it’s about so much more than losing weight. You can hear the compassion in his voice throughout this episode. He was so open and honest and generous. I hope you’ll enjoy this conversation as much as I did. In this episode we get into: - Rangan's incredibly honest experience of 2020 - Generational imprinting - Obesity and adverse childhood experiences - I challenge him on why he wrote a book on weight loss - How Covid can bring us a greater awareness of ourselves As you may already know, I’m very excited about our sponsor, Zendium toothpaste. Since then, Thubten has been sharing his wisdom worldwide and is a pioneer in mindfulness meditation. Thubten has over 20 years worth of experience working with schools, universities and businesses, such as Google. He’s lectured at institutions like Oxford and the UN and, he worked as a consultant on the Marvel Movie, ‘Dr. Strange’. In our conversation, we unpacked what happiness really is and we talked about how can we find freedom from our 'crazy minds'. We also talked about meditation, of course, and Thubten did a great job re-framing some of the resistance that we often feel towards meditation. Thubten also gives guidance around how the practice can support our children and the way we show up as parents. I really loved our conversation, and hope you enjoy it too. Joanna Fortune (re-release)- How to profoundly connect with your child(in just 15 minutes a day)
Dec 21, 2020 58 minThis week I’m delighted to re-release this popular and important episode with the lovely Joanna Fortune. Joanna is a clinical psychotherapist, an attachment specialist, and the author of the brilliant series of books, ’15 Minute Parenting’. Joanna has been working with children and families for over 20 years. She came up with the fantastic concept of ‘15 Minute Parenting’ after hearing from parents over and over again that, often, they only had 15 minutes of quality time every day to connect with their children. The books centre around how we can use play to connect with our children, underpinned by Joanna’s years of experience in psychotherapy and attachment theory. We had such a great conversation, exploring self-parenting and taking care of our own stuff as the caregivers for our children. We also talk about our inner critic and relationship with shame – and how to be aware of when we might be passing this on to our children. And towards the end of our conversation, we talk about play and some of Joanna’s 15-minute parenting ethos that can help us connect with our children in just 15 minutes a day. Zendium is the number 1 trusted toothpaste brand by dentists in Scandinavia. Zendium’s kids toothpaste contains natural enzymes already present in the mouth. Why breathwork is your super power with Richie Bostock
Oct 29, 2020 49 minThis week, I’m really excited to be speaking with Richie Bostock. Richie is a breathwork coach, author and speaker, and he’s made it his mission to spread the life-changing possibilities of breathwork. Richie’s book, Exhale, is fantastic and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about using your breath for healing. No-one ever really teaches us ‘how’ to breathe and so many of us are actually breathing in ways that aren’t serving us. In the episode, we explore how we can change the way that we feel through the way that we breathe. Richie also shares some simple breathing techniques that you can use throughout your day to help shift your energy and feel better. We also talk about how breath can be used for healing and why sometimes it can be more effective to start with bodywork practices, such as breathwork, than with traditional talking therapy. I am absolutely fascinated by breathwork and I loved this conversation with Richie, I think you’ll find it really practical and helpful. For the full show notes, please head over to motherkind.co. How to Begin Your Healing with Susy O'Hare
Oct 22, 2020 54 minI’m excited to share this week’s conversation with you. I’m speaking with Susy O’Hare, who is an author, a meditation teacher and a mother to three, very soon to be four, children. Susy’s first book is called ‘Diary of an ADHD Mum’ and since then, her work has expanded to talk about the huge importance of healing ourselves, instead of trying to ‘fix’ our children. Susy and I both believe this is the most profound way to raise our children – and we have a really deep conversation around this topic. We talk about allowing ourselves to understand that our children are our mirror, reflecting back what work we need to do on ourselves. Susy shares her wisdom from a very grounded, down-to-earth place. She’s a busy working mum and life hasn’t always looked this way for her. Susy shares her own traumas and how she felt she got her parenting ‘wrong’ for a long time, until the gift of her daughter arrived which was the start of her healing journey. I think you’ll find this a really inspiring conversation. For the full show notes, please head over to www.motherkind.co. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Re-Release - How to stop saying yes when you mean no with Sarah Knight
Aug 20, 2020 42 minThis week, we’re re-releasing the interview I did last year with the brilliant Sarah Knight. Sarah is the author of the ‘No ‘F*ck’s Given’ guides – including the bestselling book ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving an F*ck’ and her most recent book, ‘F*ck No!’ This episode does come with an ‘explicit’ warning as there’s quite a bit of swearing - so it might be best to listen with headphones on, away from little ears! In this episode, we talk about how to say ‘no’. I’m a real stickler for keeping boundaries – because it’s so important to protect our precious time and energy. Sarah teaches us how to say no in a number of scenarios, and importantly how not to feel guilty about it afterwards. I think you’ll really enjoy this one. For the last 10 years, Amy’s work has revolved around her search for an answer to the question of what happens to a woman when she becomes a mother. Amy’s search began after not being able to find anything that described the experience she had been through in her own journey to motherhood, until she came across the word ‘matrescence’. Matrescence means the experience of becoming a mother and the radical identify shift that goes along with it. Amy describes this in such a beautiful way – she says that when we become a mother, ‘we split in two’ – the person we used to be and the mother we are becoming. And, unless we honour that shift, we can get lost in the process of trying to figure out exactly who we are now. I know I really relate to this, and that many of you do, too. I really enjoyed my conversation with Amy and I think you’re going to get a lot out of this episode. For the full show notes, please head over to motherkind.co. Learn more about your ad choices. Why your past doesn't need to define you with Chloe Brotheridge
Jun 26, 2020 39 minIn this week’s episode, I’m speaking with the incredible Chloe Brotheridge. I’m delighted to welcome Chloe back to the podcast – after appearing in one of our very early episodes right at the very start! Chloe is a hypnotherapist, a coach and the author of two bestselling books, ‘The Anxiety Solution’ and ‘Brave New Girl’. We sat down to talk just as we were going into lockdown and we had such a great conversation that really re-affirmed for me the power of working on ourselves. Chloe talks about how she went from feeling highly anxious to feeling calm a lot of time. She shares her insights about reframing our mindset and having better relationships with others, ourselves and our emotions. Chloe also shares about imposter syndrome and confidence, and how we can totally change our experience of ourselves and our lives through some relatively simple tools. One of the things I love about Chloe is her calming energy which I think just exudes through the whole episode. I hope you enjoy the episode. How to break up with guilt with Anna Mathur
Jun 19, 2020 37 minThis week, I’m delighted to welcome my friend Anna Mathur back onto the podcast. Many of you will already be familiar with Anna and her incredible work. Anna is a psychotherapist and a mum of three, and she has a fantastic new book out called ‘Mind Over Mother: Every Mum’s Guide to Worry and Anxiety in the First Year’. It’s a brilliant book for mums, no matter how old your children are. Anna and I are so aligned in terms of our passions and our beliefs, and we have many shared experiences from our childhoods growing up. In this week’s episode, we talk about where the idea of ‘not being enough’ comes from and how to reach the core truth, which is that we are all enough, no matter what we do or don’t achieve as mothers and in life. Anna has a real way with words around these deep psychological concepts, which help to make them really accessible and interesting. I hope you enjoy this week’s episode. How to heal your relationship with your mother with Brooke Lightstone
Jun 12, 2020 40 minThis week, I’m excited to introduce you to Brooke Lightstone, whose work I’ve loved for a while. Brooke is a family energy healer, a women’s spiritual guide and meditation teacher and author. Brooke speaks beautifully about working to heal women and mothers. For me, she is the absolute epitome of grace, calm and wisdom and I really enjoyed our conversation. In this episode, Brooke shares about how she healed her relationship with her own mother. It’s a powerful topic as the ‘mother-daughter’ relationship can be one of the trickiest there is. The term ‘mother wound’ refers to where we feel that our mother wasn’t able to show up for us or didn’t show up in the way we wanted them to. We have a really touching conversation around this. Brooke shares her journey and how she’s now on a path of healing to release expectations around that relationship so that she can meet her mother ‘human to human’. I hope you enjoy the episode.
