Motherkind
Zoe Blaskey
Motherkind is the podcast for women who know that motherhood changes everything — and want to grow forward, not “bounce back”. Hosted by Zoe Blaskey, Motherkind explores the profound personal, emotional and professional transformation that happens when you become a mother. This is a space for women navigating the wild, identity-shifting years of motherhood who want to reclaim confidence, redefine ambition, and build a life that works for who they are now. Each week, Zoe sits down with world-leading experts, thought leaders, psychologists, authors and well-known figures to unpack the real experiences of modern motherhood — from matrescence and identity loss to confidence, boundaries, work, relationships and self-worth. Expect honest conversations, evidence-based insight and practical tools that help you move through this season with clarity and strength. Motherkind is not about doing more, fixing yourself, or returning to who you were before children. It’s about becoming who you are now — with intention, compassion and growth. If you’re a mother who wants to feel more like herself again — confident, grounded and excited about what’s next — this is your place. Motherkind: for the woman behind the mother.

Re-release: How to break free from always being the good girl with Kasia Urbaniak
Dec 30, 2021 1h 4mThis week’s guest is Kasia Urbaniak. Kasia is the founder and CEO of The Academy, a school that teaches women the foundations of power and influence. Kasia's perspective on power is unique. Over the course of nearly 20 years, she has worked as a professional Dominatrix, practiced Taoist alchemy in one of the oldest female-led monasteries in China and obtained dozens of certifications in different disciplines, including Medical Qi Gong and Systemic Constellations. Since founding The Academy in 2013, Kasia has taught hundreds of women practical tools to step into leadership positions in their relationships, families, workplaces, and wider communities. In the episode, Kasia shares about how to break free from good girl conditioning. In her words "We need bad girls, women who ruffle feathers, shake people up." And this blew me away - when we ask for what we truly want no matter how crazy, it doesn’t just benefit self or child, it benefits all of society" We talk about how to give and receive “no” and she goes in-depth on the familiar feeling for many mums, resentment. How suppressing it is the equivalent of a suicide bomber, a bit dramatic but rings true. When it finally explodes, it impacts ourselves and those around us. Her clarity around this and tools she offers for turning it around resonated strongly with me. What I really loved about speaking with Kasia on top of the entire conversation, are the simple actionable tools she shares. If you are like me and feel the world needs woman who are self-directed, strong and acting in their own best interests and not just everyone else’s, this episode will leave you feeling understood, inspired and empowered. Trust me, Kasia is electrifying. She is on a mission to liberate woman from the shackles of good girl conditioning. I hope you find it helpful. MOMENT | How to be a model not a martyr with Glennon Doyle
Dec 27, 2021 13 minWelcome back to Moment. Moment is your place for calm and connection and maybe even a shift in perspective before the week ahead. Thank you for being here. It is the 27th of December and I hope you had an amazing Christmas. And if you didn’t please be kind to yourself. This week’s Moment is with one of my all-time favourite authors, Glennon Doyle. I was lucky enough to sit and speak with Glennon in May 2020. I love doing these short episodes but I hate how hard it is to decide which moment to select. Today’s moment is going to go straight to your heart. Glennon says: "A responsible mother is not one slowly dying for her children, but showing them how to bravely live. I stopped being a martyr and started being a model." Every time I hear those words they awaken a fire in me. I think as a society we have been taught to be a good mother means we have to forget ourselves. What if it’s the opposite? What if being a good mother means showing our children how to live our brightest life. I just love this. I love Glennon and this clip and I hope you do too. As we head into a New Year, may these words give you plenty of inspiration. GROUP COACHING PROGRAMME STARTS JANUARY 2022 - Will you join us for Reconnect to you - the reboot? MOMENT | How to unleash your joy this Christmas with Zoe
Dec 20, 2021 17 minWelcome back to Moment. Moment is your place for calm and connection and maybe even a shift in perspective before the week ahead. This is the last of my Christmas episodes. This week I want to help you find your joy at Christmas and discuss why we don’t always enjoy what we have created for others and how to change that this year. The main theme over the four workshops is that we too deserve to enjoy the magic at Christmas that we are so busy creating for everyone else in our lives and how to do that. I cover 3 reasons why it’s hard to find the joy at Christmas and 3 ways to support you so you can. My question for you is: Can you allow yourself to feel the joy this Christmas? You deserve that and to enjoy Christmas just as much as everyone you are creating the magic for. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you all a very happy Christmas. Could you be peri-menopausal? with Dr. Louise Newson
Dec 16, 2021 46 minI am so happy you are here. Sometimes there is a topic with a massive gap in my own knowledge. This episode came about for exactly that reason. I realised that I knew embarrassingly little about Menopause, the process, perimenopause, treatment, symptoms, and the impact it could have on women. I wondered if you might feel the same, so I managed to get one of the UK's leading experts on the show - Dr. Louise Newson to talk about it. Many of you might know of Louise and her work from the documentary about menopause with Davina McCall and her appearances on TV talking about this important and undervalued topic. She is a GP and renowned menopause specialist who holds an Advanced Menopause Specialist certificate with the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare and the British Menopause Society. She is passionate about improving education about perimenopause and menopause and improving awareness of safe prescribing of HRT to healthcare professionals. In this episode you’ll learn about: The basics How to know if you might be peri-menopausal - this was a massive light bulb for me HRT and myths Why has it been such a taboo untalked about subject for so long and what we can do about it Where you can get support and any action you might need to take in your own life I loved this episode. I feel so much more knowledgeable and empowered than before, which is always my objective when I speak with anyone for the podcast. As you’ll hear in the episode there just isn’t enough conversation and resources about this. Please do share this episode if you think it will be helpful. MOMENT | Happy families? How to have a drama-free family Christmas with Zoe
Dec 13, 2021 14 minWelcome back to Moment. Moment is your place for calm and connection and maybe even a shift in perspective before the week ahead. Another episode with me this week. It is the next installment in my Christmas mini-series to help you have the happiest Christmas ever. This week we are talking about family dynamics. Is it possible to have a drama-free Christmas? Family dynamics can get so tricky at Christmas. Your family know how to push your buttons because they put them there. If you find it triggering and hard, perhaps it is because of what has been set up by our caregivers and the people around us in our early years. Throw in alcohol and high expectations, it isn’t surprising we get triggered over Christmas. I really want to help you today with some tips and ideas for how you might have a more peaceful family dynamic, how not to get triggered and how to enjoy time together. I hope you find this Moment really helpful. Let me know how you can get on. You can watch the full Workshop 3 from the series - Happy families? One simple habit to unlock a happier life with Mel Robbins
Dec 9, 2021 59 minThis week’s episode is really special. It’s with Mel Robbins. It was such an honour to speak with her. She was in the UK for a few days speaking about her latest book and she made time to speak with me for the Motherkind podcast. When I shared on Instagram that I was speaking with her so many of you DMd me saying how much you love her work and asking how I got her on. I have been following Mel for a long time. She has been really influential in helping me achieve some of the changes I’ve made in my life. Mel is a former layer and one of the most sought-after motivational speakers in the world. Her TedX talk has had nearly 30 million views. And, she is the author of best-selling book the High Five Habit. What I love about Mel is that a lot of her work, tools and ideas come from moments in her life when she was stuck and then found ways to overcome that. And then, what’s so wonderful, is that she finds a way to share, in simple practical ways, what helped her. I first learned about Mel from her book the Five-second rule. She says if you have an instinct to act on a goal, you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill it. You just say 5-4-3-2-1 and then take the action. It is so simple and brilliant. I use it all the time. Her new tool, which we focus on in this episode, is the High Five Habit. After using this tool for several weeks, her relationship with herself changed. It could help you to change your attitude, mindset and behaviour too. We chat about: The High Five Habit and how it can support your relationship with yourself The most important relationship you will ever have Her challenges and struggles and how she got out of them I love her and find her incredibly inspiring and brilliant and I hope you love the episode too. Let me know what you think of the episode and if you are going to give the high five challenge a go. I have been doing it for 30 days now and find it really works. You may not know her name, but you may have heard of her organisation called Hand in Hand Parenting. It’s a nonprofit international resource for parents. Patty is on a mission to help parents by teaching an approach she calls parenting by connection. She also has a book out called Listen: Five Simple Tools to Meet Your Everyday Parenting Challenges. She has an incredible perspective and this comes across in her tone, energy, wisdom and depth of expertise. When someone like Patty speaks, we want to listen. We chat about: Her moment of transformation Her life’s work and mission Crying and what it means if your child cries a lot Why we as parents need to allow ourselves to cry more What happens when we listen to our children’s emotions and when someone listens to ours Hand and Hand parenting tools for an incredible connection and relationship with your children What I take from this episode is that our children’s emotional release is an important and powerful thing that we do not want to shut down or worry about. She tells us that if your child cries a lot, as mine does, and releases a lot of emotion with you, that is an amazing sign of a close connection of safety. When we feel safe with someone, we can release that emotion and that is what we need to do. Crying is life’s natural healer. MOMENT | Why you can’t please everyone at Christmas and what to do instead with Zoe
Nov 29, 2021 18 minWelcome back to Moment. Your place on a Monday for calm and connection and maybe even a shift in perspective before the week ahead. Something a bit different this week because this Moment is with me. Throughout November, I have been delivering free coaching workshops online to help us have a calmer less stressful Christmas, which I think we all desperately need this year. For the next 4 Mondays in the run up to Christmas, I am going to be sharing ideas and tools to hopefully help you have your calmest least stressful Christmas ever. In today's moment, I want to talk to you about why you can’t please everyone at Christmas and what to do instead. Why does this matter and why have I chosen this topic? Listen to find out. My call to you at the end of the episode is to ask yourself: What is the one small change I can do to take my power back this Christmas? MOMENT | The one tool to transform your parenting with Dr Kristin Neff
Nov 22, 2021 14 minWelcome back to Moment. Your moment for calm and connection for the week ahead. This week’s Moment is from Ep 27 June 2018 and in it, the world-renowned psychologist Dr. Kristin Neff shares the one tool that has transformed her parenting. And it can help transform yours too. What if I told you there was one tool that is proven to make you stronger, reduce anxiety, and even make you happier. That tool is self-compassion. Self-compassion is treating yourself with the same kindness, care, and understanding that you would show to a friend. Isn’t it just a truism that we often treat ourselves differently from how we treat those we care about? As Dr. Neff says it isn’t what we face in life that determines how we cope but how we are with ourselves when we face difficult moments. And, aren’t there many difficult moments in parenting that we must face. As she explains in the clip we can either have an enemy or an inner ally. Having an inner ally, a kinder voice inside, actually makes us stronger. She also explains about mirror neurons. This is absolutely fascinating. I like to think about this as emotions being contagious. If we are stressed out and anxious our children will pick up on that and mirror it back on us. The opposite is also true. If they are anxious or tantrumming and we can find some calm and ease within ourselves, as hard as that is, then that will help them quicker than any words that we can say because of these mirror neurons. This is absolutely incredible and I wish that every single parent knew about this. The quickest way to help our children is to calm ourselves first. Here is this week’s clip. I hope you really enjoy it. Please do let me know what you thought. You can listen to the full episode here. FOR MORE ON DR. Why we need to prioritise how life feels to us over how it looks to others with Jessica Huie
Nov 11, 2021 34 minThis week’s guest is my wonderful friend Jessica Huie. I cannot tell you how lucky I am to have her in my life. The word inspirational gets thrown around a lot these days doesn’t it, but Jessica really does live up to that description. She went from being a teen mother expelled from school and living in a hostel, to having an amazing career in PR. She founded two awarding-winning businesses and received an MBE for her contribution to promoting diversity in business. Having built the life she thought she desired and looking very successful on the outside, her father passed away. This gave her an awakening to really assess everything with fresh eyes. She is now on a mission to help us connect to who we really are and to live from the heart rather than the head. We chat about: How to find your purpose (it’s not what you might think) Why control is the enemy of authenticity and joy Why we have the desire to control everything in our lives How to live based on how it feels to you and not how it looks to others How to make bold choices even if they go against the grain Her parenting philosophy How she handled the fallout from moving with her son from Surrey to Jamaica in the middle of a pandemic This is an incredible episode, a very spiritual episode. My hope and intention is that you find real peace and comfort in Jessica’s words. Every time I speak with Jessica it just really helps me cut through the day-to-day stresses and worries and ask myself what kind of life do I really want to live and am I creating it for myself. I really hope this episode does that for you too. As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. How to find the confidence to do motherhood your way with Hollie de Cruz
Oct 28, 2021 55 minWe have a special episode for you this week. If you followed my story about the birth of my first daughter, Jessie, who is nearly 6 now, you know that was a huge moment of transformation for me. Jessie was born, but also so was I. It was such an empowering experience for me that I felt called in my purpose and mission to work with mothers. So much so that I quit my corporate job of 12 years to start Motherkind. It was my purpose then and I feel that even more strongly today. This week’s guest was a hugely important part of that experience for me. Her name is Hollie de Cruz. Many of you will already know Hollie. She is a renowned birth coach, podcaster, author of Your Baby, Your Birth, and Motherhood Your Way and a mother of two boys. In many ways, we have lived parallel journeys of healing. This isn’t really an episode about birth. We touch on it and talk about it, but, this is actually an episode about purpose. It’s about healing and getting more and more comfortable about who we are. She is incredibly honest and vulnerable about her journey over the past few years and what that has meant for her and how she is different today. I think you are going to love this one. I hope you enjoy it. We chat about: Hollie’s journey and what it has meant to her Finding purpose The path of healing Asking ourselves: What is the fear? Can a sharing economy work for parents? with Nigel Phan
Oct 14, 2021 42 minWelcome to this very special episode of the Motherkind Podcast created in partnership with the innovative and conscientious Whirli. I am super excited to be working with Whirli which is the UKs revolutionary toy subscription service. Think of it as the sharing economy for toys. It makes so much sense, doesn’t it? Sharing toys. What children like to play with changes so quickly and you can never predict what they are going to love or not even play with at all. I certainly would not like to add up all the money I have wasted on toys the girls never played with. Not to mention the additional mental load of researching and buying the right toys at the right time. I love Whirli because it’s a solution to all of that. Plus, it’s so much more sustainable than each of us buying all those toys. Think of it as a more affordable & sustainable alternative to buying toys. And more fun and memorable. This episode is created in partnership with Whirli because I was thinking about the best way to tell you about Whirli and the service, and I think this is it! I actually interview its founder Nigel Phan. Because who better to explain it. Let me know what you think of the sharing economy for toys. Will it work for you? And if you like this episode then I recommend you listen to, if you haven’t already, my conversation with Jen Gale Ep 140 You have more power than you think. How to talk to children about race with Nova Reid
Oct 7, 2021 43 minThis could possibly be one of the most important conversations I’ve ever had on the Podcast. Nova Reid is a Ted speaker, anti-racism activist, and author. Her incredible debut book The Good Ally is out now. I think the book should be required reading. It is informative and incredibly researched, kind and compassionate. Nova invites us to do the self-inquiry and uncomfortable work of unlearning our own racism. We chat about: What racism is Why the definition we may have in our head isn’t helpful Why we have got to start having conversations with our children about race and how to do it Trauma and racism The heartbreaking impact of racism on Nova’s body It really is an incredible episode. It’s also important for me to say that I have so much to do in my own anti-racism work. To be honest, I have to admit to you that I was nervous about talking to Nova and having this conversation. What I’m learning is how important these conversations are, especially if you are uncomfortable. You will hear me in discomfort, with some shame and guilt. I think that is part of the importance of having these conversations and doing this work. As Nova says, there is always something to explore in what comes up for us. I hope you enjoy the episode. The Power of Play with Emma Worrollo
Sep 30, 2021 40 minWelcome to this very special episode of the Motherkind Podcast created in partnership with our lovely friends at Barbie. Do you remember last year when we had Dr. Michele Borba on the show talking about this amazing new research that Barbie had done with Cardiff University about doll play and empathy? Well, that study for the first time ever, through neuroimaging, showed that doll play activates the part of the brain that allows children to develop empathy and social processing skills. So many of you loved that episode. I think for lots of us it was a real aha moment that doll play even when played alone, can help develop those empathy skills that we want our children to have. I think that was especially important and interesting given the backdrop of the pandemic when those social interactions had been so limited. This episode is like the next installment to that conversation. Lots of you got in touch and asked about how to help your children play with dolls. So we have an amazing play expert on, Emma from the Playful Den. What Emma doesn’t know about play isn’t worth knowing. She is incredible. What I really took from this episode is that I am becoming increasingly fascinated with doll play and, secondly, just how amazing doll play is for helping our children understand the world around them. And don’t we need that for them right now. It is created in partnership with Barbie - I hope you love it. We chat about: What’s really going on when children play How to use doll play to help our children develop empathy How to process different social situations I think it is a real shame that doll play is associated as a girl’s activity.- Emma, The Playful Den As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. How to heal your mother wound with Bethany Webster
Sep 16, 2021 50 minThis is such a powerful episode. My guest today is Bethany Webster. She is the global expert on healing the mother wound. You might be thinking what is the mother wound? Do I have one? How do I know if I have one? Bethany would say most of us are carrying some wounding from our own mothers. The mother wound is when we split off from our authentic selves because of conscious and subconscious messages from our own mothers about who we need to be, about who they need us to be or about who society needs us to be. Our beliefs about ourselves are generally formed between the ages of 0-7. That is so powerful. And that is exactly the same time we need our caregiver’s love to survive. So what do we do? We adapt. We split off from who we really are to become who we think we need to be in order to get that love. And that is the mother wound. It is important to say that this is not about mother bashing or shaming our mothers. We are all mothers and know how challenging this role is. Bethany’s call to us is to look at this so it may be less likely that we will pass it on to our own daughters. This is an incredibly powerful episode and I think Bethany’s work is game-changing. We chat about: What is the mother wound Why we need to talk about it Shame-based identity What is the mother gap and how do we fill it Healing intergenerational patterns The difference between blaming and taking responsibility FREEBIES! Re-release - Reflections on motherhood and redefining success with Ella Mills
Sep 2, 2021 52 minThis week, I’m super excited to be speaking with Ella Mills. Ella is the founder and creator of Deliciously Ella. From her early beginnings as a blogger, Ella has grown the brand into a hugely successful company, spanning a number of bestselling cookbooks, an app, a deli in central London and a range of plant-based food products. I’ve been following Ella online for a long time and we had such a brilliant conversation about motherhood and redefining success. Ella is mum to her daughter Skye, who just turned one. When we recorded this conversation, she was 33 weeks pregnant and getting ready to give birth to her second child. We talked about Ella’s experience of early motherhood from her first pregnancy and what she plans to do differently this time. She shares her journey with guilt and pressure and how she is finding balance as a mother and founder of a a very busy, successful company. Re-release - How to heal yourself with Dr. Nicole Le Pera
Aug 26, 2021 1h 5mWelcome to this week’s episode. It’s a very special one. Perhaps one of the most important conversations I’ve ever had on the podcast. Dr. Nicole Le Pera, who you might know as the holistic psychologist, was trained in clinical psychology at Cornell University and the School for Social Research. As a clinical psychologist with her own private practice, she found herself really frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. And I know many of you have experienced that and I have experienced that myself. Wanting more for her patients and for herself. She began a journey to develop a philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual health to help people heal themselves. After experiencing the life-changing results herself, she began to share what she’d learned with others—and soon “The Holistic Psychologist”, now with over 3.5 million followers, was born. This work and this conversation that we have is a paradigm shift. Her teachings empower us in actually quite simple ways to break free from the generational cycles that we get stuck in and to create who we really are and who we want to become. This is what she calls self-healing. The massive changes I have experienced in myself have not come from traditional therapy. They have come from me observing a behavior in myself I want to change, trying a new behavior and becomming aware of what I have noticed. Journaling is probably the cornerstone of that practice for me, and that’s why you hear me talk about it week in and week out. This is a really important conversation. We talk about how behaviors get passed down through the generations. There is nothing more profound for us to do as mothers and parents than to work on our own stuff. The sad truth is that what we don’t heal we can pass on. And that is why this inner work is so important. This conversation is like the masterclass about why that is and how to do it. I wish every parent could listen to this conversation. What a shift we would see in the world. If you enjoy it and it resonates and you feel empowered and inspired please share it. It was amazing for me to sit with Dr. Nicole. I hope you enjoy it.
