About this video

Actor Xolo Maridueña, who made history as the star of the first Latinx superhero film 'Blue Beetle' in the DC Universe, joins us to share his inspiring journey, career, and discuss Latinx empowerment, representation and community. Xolo recently wrapped the independent film Killing Castro, alongside Al Pacino, Diego Boneta and Kiki Layne. He can also be seen as the star of DC's Blue Beetle, the first DC or Marvel film to center on a Latino superhero. Earlier this year Xolo shot the final season of Netflix’s smash hit “Cobra Kai,” an extension of the classic Karate Kid film franchise. Having garnered wide critical praise since the show’s 2018 debut, he has quickly become a fan favorite as “Miguel Diaz,” having already earned Teen Choice and Young Artists Award nominations. After a successful run on YouTube Premium, the series became a phenomenon on Netflix and is one of the platform's biggest hits. Xolo’s first big break came in 2012 at just ten years old, when he landed the role of Victor on NBC’s hit drama series Parenthood. Throughout his three seasons on the show, his performance impressed critics and fans alike, earning him an Imagen Award nomination, recognition for “channeling Latino talent” at the ALMA Awards, and a spot-on Latina Magazine’s “50 Brightest Stars Under 25” list. Xolo was also featured in the Twin Peaks limited series by David Lynch, and in the critically acclaimed short, Goodnight America. Moderated by Jesus Garcia-Valadez.
