Discover the city of Anchorage, Alaska - a tourism destination filled with wildlife, glaciers and culture. It's also home to the NYO Games - a series of gruelling high school sports inspired by real-world survival skills with historical ties to the indigenous tribes of the state. In this episode, we head to Anchorage to learn about the history and ancient origins of the games - from sneaking up on a seal, to sending a message across the tundra without a cell phone - and meeting some of the student athletes taking part in the state’s toughest high school sports tournament. We spoke with coach, competitor, and event organizer Kyle Worl, who shared the powerful history behind these intense Arctic sports. As the games gain recognition beyond Alaska, Kyle is committed to honoring their roots whilst inspiring the next generation of athletes.
