About this video

After surviving the 2019 Sri Lanka Easter bombings, a school leader reflects on how to lead during extreme uncertainty. His key lesson is that in a crisis, leaders should focus on protecting people, communicating constantly, staying calm, and anchoring decisions to a clear purpose. When chaos destroys certainty, principles and purpose become the foundation that helps people move from fear and confusion to stability and success. Jon is Headteacher in the Channel Islands. He has extensive leadership experience and has held senior roles including as an Executive Headteacher in the UK and Head of Secondary at one of the top schools in central Asia. Previously, Jon led school improvement in challenging contexts, driven by a commitment to social mobility and the belief that every child can succeed. Jon holds degrees in English and Modern English Studies, is a member of the Chartered College of Teaching, and is a qualified international school inspector. Married with four children, Jon supports Tranmere Rovers through thin and thin! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
