We don’t buy digital products: We live in them | Bruno Giussani & Katerina Biliouri | TEDxBerlin
10/07/2026
We still think of digital technologies as products, but over the last couple of decades, first slowly then rapidly, they have become architectures, virtual spaces within which we live and work, and whose rules are established by their developers and owners. In this conversation, Bruno Giussani, former European director of TED and author of "Our Minds Under Siege: How to Avoid Being Manipulated in the Age of AI" and Katerina Biliouri, curator and co-founder of Lemondrop, discuss the meaning of this technological evolution for our lives and explore how AI, as the old Greeks would say, is a "pharmakon": at the same time remedy and poison, help and threat. Bruno Giussani is the author of "Our Minds Under Siege: How to Avoid Being Manipulated in the Age of artificial intelligence" (Scheidegger & Spiess, 2026) and the former European director and global curator of TED. He’s written for newspapers in Europe and the United States (including, for several years, an internet column for The New York Times), was head of digital strategy at the World Economic Forum and has co-founded two software firms. He lives in Switzerland. Katerina Biliouri Davidson curates ideas, conferences, and narratives that move people. For a decade, she worked alongside the TED Conferences curation team, coaching speakers to bring their boldest messages to life. Known for turning complexity into clarity, she helps individuals and leaders around the world speak with confidence, authenticity, and power. She leads public speaking workshops online and in person for individuals, companies, and global organizations. Katerina is the co-founder of lemondrop agency. https://lemondrop.agency This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Why AI forces us to rethink leadership and organizations | Florian Bankoley | TEDxBerlin
10/07/2026
AI is not just changing tasks — it is changing how organizations hold together. Florian Bankoley argues that hierarchy was our old answer to complexity, but AI forces us to invent a new one. As intelligence and decision support spread across institutions, leaders must rethink trust, authority, coordination and legitimacy before old organizational structures stop holding. Florian Bankoley is Chief Digital Officer of Bosch Mobility, leading digital, AI, software, data, and IT transformation across one of the world’s largest mobility businesses. Over two decades, he has moved between corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, and board roles — including founding a digital mobility business within Bosch and driving major global transformation programs. Florian is fascinated by the human side of change: why some ideas scale, why others fail, and what leadership really demands in times of disruption. With roots across Europe and a career shaped by technology and business, he brings a practical but deeply personal perspective on transformation, innovation, and the future of mobility. Why Europe was never behind in AI | Alexander Woellwarth-Lauterburg | TEDxBerlin
10/07/2026
Europe has spent two decades being told it is behind in AI. Entrepreneur Alexander Woellwarth-Lauterburg, who started inside the hidden human supply chain of the AI industry, argues we are measuring the wrong race entirely — and that the real competition is only just beginning. Alexander Woellwarth-Lauterburg is the founder and CEO of InnoButler, where he is building a sovereign European AI platform for enterprise R&D. He founded the company while working inside the hidden human supply chain of the AI industry — an experience that permanently demystified the technology for him. At the core of his work is a fascination with how knowledge moves: why some ideas travel across borders and industries while others get trapped, and what it costs a continent when its intelligence is built somewhere else. Alexander brings a grounded perspective on innovation, sovereignty, and the quiet decisions that shape who owns the future. Why the future of AI will be decided by communities | Elena Poughia | TEDxBerlin
10/07/2026
Who really decides what AI becomes? While governments debate regulation and companies race to build more powerful systems, communities are already shaping how artificial intelligence is adopted, trusted, and governed. Drawing on a decade spent building AI ecosystems across Europe, Elena Poughia challenges why the future of AI may be decided not by technology itself, but by the humans who organize around it. Elena Poughia is the founder of Data Natives, one of Europe's largest AI and data science communities, and Managing Director of Dataconomy, a leading global publication covering artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. For over a decade, she has worked at the intersection of technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community building, helping connect founders, researchers, policymakers, and investors across Europe and beyond. AI already tracks the data that could save lives | Cori Lathan | TEDxBerlin
10/07/2026
Every minute, somewhere in the world, a fall takes a life — and many are preventable. The data that could predict our decline is already streaming from our phones and wearables; the problem, says neuroscientist and inventor Dr. Cori Lathan, is that we've aimed AI at selling us shoes instead of keeping us alive. In this personal talk about her own parents, the hidden toll on caregivers, and the future she believes we can still choose, Lathan makes the case for finally pointing AI at the things that matters most. Dr. Corinna Lathan is an inventor, entrepreneur, and self-described future cyborg. Over three decades she's built technology to make humans stronger, smarter, and healthier. Her inventions sit at the intersection of science fiction and real-world impact — robots for kids with disabilities, brain-health tools for soldiers, virtual reality for astronauts, and wearables that turn electricity into medicine. She founded AnthroTronix, holds 35 patents, and wrote the bestseller, Inventing the Future: Stories from a Techno-Optimist. She earned her PhD in neuroscience from MIT, was named a Technology Pioneer and Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, and has chaired its Global Future Council on AI & Robotics. Forbes, Time, and The New Yorker have profiled her work and the Smithsonian featured a full-size statue of her in its Contemporary Women in STEM exhibit. She lives in Maryland with her family under the motto: "We may be crazy, but we're not stupid." Cross-thinkers must inherit the world of AI | Bright Simons | TEDxBerlin
10/07/2026
AI didn't teach itself to think. We taught it through the messiness of our life struggles over millennia. Bright Simons introduces the Social Edge Paradox: the more we automate knowledge work, the more we starve AI of the civilisational substrate it needs to get smarter. He argues that the future of AI belongs not to Big Tech but to cross-thinkers - people like Bra Kofi in Africa's auto-garages, who can harness the tacit knowledge trapped in informal economies to advance AI that builds power plants instead of just PowerPoints. Bright Simons is a Ghanaian social innovator, writer, and policy thinker working at the intersection of technology, trust, and development. As President of mPedigree, he has helped deploy technologies across Africa and other regions to transform supply chains and consumer markets. He holds senior affiliations with top think tanks like IMANI and ODI Global and sits on many boards.Bright has advised organizations including Microsoft, the World Economic Forum, and UCB, as well as multiple universities. An inaugural TED Fellow, Fortune World 50 Greatest Leaders honoree, and recipient of multiple global awards, he is passionate about deepening trust & spreading prosperity through policy innovation and tech. The Humans Are Coming: AI in Neuroscience | Eric Rosenthal | TEDxBoston
10/07/2026
Eric S. Rosenthal, MD, draws on Massachusetts’ revolutionary history to explore a new revolution in digital health and AI within medicine and neuroscience. Massachusetts was not merely the place where a new government began; it was a place where ordinary people built new systems for perceiving signals, sharing information, coordinating action, and imagining a different future. Two hundred and fifty years later, we are surrounded by signals again — in the pauses in a patient’s voice, the distance someone walks each day, the social networks they maintain, and the countless fragments of a medical record. Drawing from the breadth of digital and AI expertise at the Mass General Brigham Neuroscience Institute, the talk highlights how privacy-protecting, human-centered technologies — including ambient documentation, early diagnostic algorithms, voice and movement sensing, digital biomarkers, social and community mapping, predictive analytics, and monitoring that can help a clinician understand a patient not as a snapshot during a brief office encounter, but as a person navigating challenges through daily life — may transform care for people with conditions of the brain, spine, and nervous system, including stroke and cerebrovascular disease, ALS, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions and dementias, epilepsy, tumors of the brain and spine, coma, neuromuscular disease, and other complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. The talk articulates an aspiration in which technology recedes into the background, the patient comes more fully into view, and clinicians have more room for the work only humans can do: listening, noticing, explaining, comforting, accompanying patients through uncertainty, and collaborating to heal, cure, and prevent illness. Eric S. Rosenthal, MD, is Director of Digital and Intelligent Health for the Mass General Brigham Neuroscience Institute, Associate Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, and Associate Neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital. His clinical and research work focuses on improving care for people with conditions of the brain, spine, and nervous system. His work spans digital biomarkers, collaborative data science, and monitoring-informed clinical trials that use EEG, multimodal patient data, and artificial intelligence to understand patients more fully, personalize treatment, accelerate discovery, and make care more present, trustworthy, and human. Imagination and storytelling in the age of AI | Marco Gentile | TEDxBerlin
10/07/2026
What happens to human imagination when technology begins anticipating our thoughts before they fully form, reshaping our relationship with uncertainty, consequence, and irreversible time? Drawing from filmmaking, philosophy, and personal experience, director Marco Gentile explores how generative AI is reshaping not only creativity, but the conditions that make storytelling, freedom, and authorship possible in the first place. Marco Gentile is an Italian advertising, music videos and film director, writer, and speaker exploring storytelling, imagination, and human agency in the age of artificial intelligence. Known for his cinematic approach to commercial storytelling, he has directed international campaigns for brands including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Adidas, Toyota, Vodafone, Lexus, and Coca-Cola, with work recognized at Cannes Lions and other major international festivals. A Fulbright Scholar, Marco holds a Master’s degree in Film and Media Arts from Emerson College in Boston, as well as a degree in Political Science. He spent several years on the director roster at Ridley Scott Associates in Los Angeles, developing large-scale international projects across advertising and film. Alongside his directing work, Marco has increasingly focused on a deeper question: what happens to human imagination, authorship, and decision making when the symbolic environment around us becomes increasingly generated rather than authored? He is currently completing his first book, Time Does Not Rehearse, a philosophical narrative work exploring storytelling, human finitude, and imagination in the age of AI. Can we protect democracy from fake news? | Maxim Nitsche | TEDxBerlin
10/07/2026
Every day, a billion new posts flood our feeds — and hidden among them, the fake news built to plant doubt. Entrepreneur Maxim Nitsche traces a real lie — that the Gates Foundation engineered ticks to stop us eating meat — as it travels from outlet to outlet in a single live visualization. Learn how AI has changed the terms of the fight against disinformation — and why, for once, there's reason for optimism. Maxim Nitsche builds AI to defend democracies against disinformation. He is the co-founder and CEO of deep, a Berlin-based company whose system, deepTrust, detects coordinated manipulation campaigns before they go viral. His path started early. At 15, Maxim co-founded MATH 42 with his brother and his father. The AI tutor helped over 7 million students overcome their fear of math at a fraction of the cost of private tutoring, and was acquired by Chegg in 2017. The lesson stayed with him: AI is a tool for good — if it is applied thoughtfully. Maxim is curious to a fault, which shows up in his lifelong, flailing attempts to get better at chess and tennis, and in a treasure trove of useless facts no one asked for. Why I take my college students to prison | Ann Frost | TEDxUofW
7/07/2026
When society pictures incarcerated individuals, the public imagination often defaults to dangerous people locked in cages, far beyond rehabilitation. University professor and educator Ann Frost challenges this damaging stereotype by bringing her college students inside prison walls to participate in a shared book club. In this moving talk, she reveals how stripping away the artificial barriers of the criminal legal system to engage in mutual learning fosters profound compassion and understanding. Discover why expanding access to prison education is essential, not just for reducing recidivism, but for reminding us that we are all simply people who can learn from each other. Ann Frost is a Full Time Lecturer in Law Societies and Justice (LSJ) and Sociology. Ann’s research focuses on state sentencing policies during the War on Drugs, and the issues for racial and ethnic minorities that arose from these policies. Her research also addresses the racial language, both explicit and implicit, employed by state legislators and others who advocated for or against the War on Drugs. Ann is a lawyer who practiced criminal defense as a public defender for 15 years. This professional experience fueled her interest in studying the political, legal, and sociological issues that impact the American criminal justice system and the individuals who become involved in it. Why the Most Experienced Voices Remain Invisible | Reim El Houni | TEDxJumeirahBeachPark
7/07/2026
This talk explores why many of the most experienced voices remain invisible in a world that rewards visibility. Not because they lack expertise, but because of the limiting beliefs, fear of judgment, and internal narratives that hold them back. Drawing on 25 years as an Executive Producer shaping how the world sees others, Reim shares the paradox of building visibility at the highest level while remaining unseen in her own life, and what that reveals about how credibility is formed today. As the creator economy becomes increasingly driven by attention, a critical gap is emerging. Those with the deepest experience are often the least visible. Reim El Houni is a CEO, award-winning Executive Producer, and visibility strategist with over 25 years of experience shaping how stories are told across broadcast, branded content, and large-scale productions. She has worked with global and regional platforms including the BBC, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, Times of India, and OSN, as well as leading UAE government entities. El futuro es superconductor | Pablo Cayado | TEDxOviedoUniversity
7/07/2026
The Calculus of Greener Grass | Haofeng "Fish" Yu | TEDxWinsor School Youth
7/07/2026
Haofeng "Fish" Yu is an actuary and mathematician who spent his career building models to predict the future. He decides to apply that same rigor to his own life, and his model says: move from Houston to Boston. What follows is a cross-country drive through a near-collision on I-90, a rocky start building his consulting firm, FolioX, amid a colder culture, and months of aimless T rides trying to find where he belongs. The turning point comes at the Arnold Arboretum, in front of a 74-year-old bald cypress, a swamp tree from the Gulf Coast that has survived decades of Boston winters without ever becoming a maple. Blending math, humor, and honest reflection on adaptation, Yu distills his experience into two elegant conclusions: adapt to your environment, but never stop being yourself. Haofeng "Fish" Yu is new to Boston and new to the Winsor community. After relocating from Houston with his younger daughter in August, he has been rethinking a familiar idea: the grass is greener somewhere else. In his talk, Fish shares how change, distance, and everyday effort shape where - and how - we grow.
