About this video

January 1925 was a scary time to be alive in the remote Alaskan town of Nome. An outbreak of diphtheria had quickly killed two small children, and an untold number would follow if the local doctor couldn't get his hands on a particular antitoxin. The US government had an emergency supply in Anchorage, but getting it to Nome would require a thousand-kilometer journey through blisteringly cold temperatures and the occasional blizzard... and the only viable travel method was a sled pulled by a team of dogs. Lucky for everyone, those sled dogs (and their human mushers) were very good at what they do.
