"What if AI doesn’t replace leaders, but exposes what leadership really is? In this TEDx talk, Microsoft design leader Amit Patil reflects on leadership in the age of AI, where authority is becoming less about titles and more about responsibility, judgment, and care. Drawing from his experience designing technology used by millions, he explores how AI can help organizations become more inclusive, creative, and empowered, but only if people stop treating leadership as a position held by a few. His message is simple: in the age of AI, leadership is no longer something you wait to be given. It is something you choose to practice." Amit Patil is the Principal Group Design Manager at Microsoft, where he leads design for Teams and SharePoint Admin Centers, shaping experiences that empower millions of users across the world. With over 18 years of experience at the intersection of design, research, and technology, Amit has played a pivotal role in creating human-centered products such as Viva Insights, Outlook for emerging markets, and Admin Copilot. An alumnus of the National Institute of Design, Amit brings a rare blend of analytical rigor and creative imagination to his work. His career has spanned organizations like Honeywell, IBM, and Opera, where he built cross-disciplinary teams, filed multiple patents, and championed design-led transformation in complex domains, from aviation systems to AI-driven collaboration tools. Beyond this, Amit is deeply committed to shaping the next generation of designers, he serves as guest faculty in various design colleges across the country. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
