About this video

Carl Gustav Jung (26 July 1875 – 6 June 1961) was a Swiss psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and psychologist who founded the school of analytical psychology. A prolific author of over twenty books, illustrator, and correspondent, Jung was a complex and profound academic, best known for his concept of archetypes and the shadow. Jung's work has been influential in the fields of psychiatry, anthropology, archaeology, literature, philosophy, psychology, and religious studies and is widely regarded as one of the most influential psychologists in history. Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 – 16 November 1973) was a British and American writer, speaker, and self-styled "philosophical entertainer", known for interpreting and popularising Buddhist, Taoist, and Hindu philosophy for a Western audience. In this episode, Alan Watts reads a passage from a lecture by Carl Jung. The focus of this passage is on how to truly help someone - by accepting them as they are.
