About this video

Who really decides what AI becomes? While governments debate regulation and companies race to build more powerful systems, communities are already shaping how artificial intelligence is adopted, trusted, and governed. Drawing on a decade spent building AI ecosystems across Europe, Elena Poughia challenges why the future of AI may be decided not by technology itself, but by the humans who organize around it. Elena Poughia is the founder of Data Natives, one of Europe's largest AI and data science communities, and Managing Director of Dataconomy, a leading global publication covering artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. For over a decade, she has worked at the intersection of technology, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community building, helping connect founders, researchers, policymakers, and investors across Europe and beyond. She serves on the SXSW Pitch Board and as an expert for the European Commission’s innovation programs. In her talk, she explores why communities, not just technology, will determine the future of artificial intelligence. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
