Could Highlander syndrome help humans become immortal?
17 Nis 20245 minHumans have long been intrigued by the idea of achieving eternal life, and wondered whether it could ever become possible thanks to medical and technological advances. But in the case of some individuals it seems that it may even be randomly bestowed upon them. Let’s take South Korean man Shin Hyo Myung for example. Ever since he appeared on eNews24 in 2013, he’s been used to being the centre of attention. In 2015 he then appeared in a documentary, and was widely described as a 26-year old with the appearance of a 12-year old boy. These days he’s a social media influencer, but even pictures from 2023 show him still looking like a teenager. How do doctors explain his condition? What are the causes? So can the Highlander syndrome truly make someone immortal? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the last episodes, you can click here: How can you use Tinder safely? What are the three types of female orgasm?
17 Nis 20244 minWhile it remains a complex phenomenon, the female orgasm is becoming a focus of more and more medical studies. Back in 2016, French sociomedical researcher Odile Fillod created the first ever 3D model of a clitoris, changing the way we think about female pleasure. And since then, we've learned a fair amount more about the different possible types of orgasm that a woman can have. We often talk about clitoral and vaginal orgasms! Is that really an accurate distinction? So are we saying there's only one type of orgasm then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! How can you use Tinder safely?
16 Nis 20244 minSalim Berrada, also known as "the Tinder rapist", has been on trial in France since 18 March 2024. He is accused of raping or sexually assaulting 17 women, after meeting them on the Internet via dating applications. According to victims his MO was always the same: he would invite them to his home for a photo shoot, offer them a drink that they felt compelled to take and which would result in them feeling extremely intoxicated. Although the defendant has denied the charges investigators were able to find traces of drugs, including antihistamines in several of the women. The women then described a sudden change in Salim’s attitude towards them and said he then forced himself on them despite their objections and refusal. The only thing that unites all these women is that they were approached over the Internet Is it an isolated case? So how do you ensure a safe date on Tinder? Why do some people talk during their sleep?
15 Nis 20245 minImagine yourself tucked snugly under the covers in your bed, anticipating a blissfully restful night's sleep when all of a sudden, you're jolted awake by your partner! And as it turns out, they’ve done that because you were chattering away in your sleep, disturbing their peace and quiet. Now, being rudely awakened in the dead of night is bad enough, but adding the embarrassment of talking in your sleep just compounds the situation. After all, who knows what you've been rambling about? Fear not though, this phenomenon is actually really common and happens to almost everyone—it's called somniloquy. According to a study published in Sleep Medicine in 2010, nearly two-thirds of people talk in their sleep at some point in their lives. What are the causes behind sleep talking? What exactly do people say when they’re asleep? How can I put a stop to my nighttime chatter? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! What are the health benefits of using sex toys?
13 Nis 20245 minWe've long known that masturbation can help relieve stress and even alleviate menstrual pain in women, thanks to the release of hormones like endorphins acting as a natural painkiller. It’s also well established that sexual activity is beneficial for the cardiovascular system, as it increases our heart rate and may even contribute to lower blood pressure. But as it turns out, using sex toys can also have some surprisingly positive effects on our health. And of course toys like butt plugs, dildos and vibrators, sex toys can be used with a partner too.Their popularity has been steadily growing year after year, and sex toys are no longer as taboo as they once were. Of course, the extended periods of isolation brought on by Covid-19 lockdowns only sped up the normalisation of sex toy use. Are those health benefits physical or psychological? There are so many types of sex toys out there - how am I supposed to choose among them all? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! How does eldest daughter syndrome affect some women?
12 Nis 20245 minFemale listeners; if you're the oldest of multiple siblings, you probably know the drill. Being the big sister often means being thrust into a parental role from a young age and sometimes having to sacrifice your own personal growth as a result. And discussions of this phenomenon have been increasing in the last year or so. The term "eldest daughter syndrome" has emerged and started trending on Tiktok from 2023 onwards. What is a kakistocracy, in the world of work ?
11 Nis 20244 minWe spend a good deal of our time at work, 35 hours a week or more. It's an integral part of our lives, so if you can it's always best to surround yourself with good colleagues. They make work not only more enjoyable but stimulating. Their support and collaboration also helps to create a positive environment where teamwork leads to tackling problems and finding solutions. However, when we don't get along with our co-workers, time moves slowly, worse still is when you find yourself compensating for their shoddy work or having to work around them. But by far the worst situation is when the problem of incompetence comes from above. This situation has a name: the working environment becomes a kakistocracy. What does it mean? How do incompetent people get to positions of power in the first place? Is it possible to overthrow a kakistocracy? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Why do doctors advise against chewing gum?
10 Nis 20244 minChewing gum first appeared in the United Kingdom in the year 1911, when AMerican manufacturer William Wrigley founded a British subsidiary. And it’s only become more and more popular as time with time. During World War II, American soldiers traded sticks of gum with European locals for rations. More recently, a widely-cited estimation from the early 2000s suggested there were 28 million regular chewers in the United Kingdom, making Brits the second biggest consumers of gum in the world! These modern marvels remove stains without requiring Herculean effort. But navigating the overwhelming array of choices in the detergent aisle can be overwhelming. What threat does the Year 2038 problem pose to our computers?
8 Nis 20244 minMillennials - how well, if at all, do you remember the Y2K bug hype? Back in the 1990s, everyone was freaking out about computers crashing when the clock struck midnight on January 1st, 2000. That was because when computers were first built back in the mid-20th century, they stored years with only two digits instead of four, due to memory limitations. It was feared that when the clock ticked over from '99' to '00' in the year 2000, computers wouldn't recognise the new century and might revert to '1900'. In the end, it turned out to be much ado about nothing - the widely predicted chaos didn’t materialise. But fast forward two decades later, and some people say we're looking at another potential computer meltdown on January 19, 2038. And at 3 hours, 14 minutes and 7 seconds past midnight, to be precise. Why is 2038 the new date to watch out for? Is there any way to avoid this? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Why do people say the soul weighs 21 grams ?
6 Nis 20244 minA small chocolate bar. A tablespoon of honey. A hummingbird. Those are a few different things that weigh around 21g. And you can add the human soul to that list, according to the 21 grams experiment from the early 20th century. That’s right; while there’s no scientific evidence that the soul even exists, a theory emerged not only suggesting that it does, but also putting its weight at the figure of 21g. The 21g figure comes from research by British doctor Duncan MacDougall. His observations led him to believe that at the moment a person dies, they lose exactly 21 grams in weight. And he was also convinced that if the soul exists, it must have a weight, just like any other physical matter. How did a theory like that come about? How well was the experiment received? Why are some people constantly sexually aroused ?
5 Nis 20245 minThe condition we’re going to talk about today is pretty rare. It affects around 1% of women, but it can really disrupt the lives of those who suffer from it. Persistent genital arousal disorder, or PGAD for short, was officially identified by the medical community back in 2001, when Sandra Leiblum and Sharon Nathan published an article about it in The Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy. At the time, they called it persistent genital arousal syndrome, and identified five specific criteria for diagnosis. These were then expanded by the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health in 2021. According to that organisation, PGAD refers to “persistent or recurrent, unwanted or intrusive, distressing sensations of genital arousal”. It is “most commonly experienced in the clitoris but also in other genito-pelvic regions” and “may include other types of genito-pelvic dysesthesia” like buzzing, tingling, burning, twitching, itch or pain.” The minimum duration for a diagnosis is 3 months. Are you saying it’s like having a constant orgasm? So where does it actually come from then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Why are we afraid of the dark?
4 Nis 20244 minFear of the dark is very common for children and usually starts between the ages of 5 and 10. At this age, children become more aware of the dangers around them. However, they often have difficulty correctly assessing just how real these dangers are. Usually, this fear disappears naturally as children gain confidence and grow up, but in rarer cases it may persist into adulthood. Principally, it is because darkness alters our main sense of reference: sight. This sense has taken over from the others, and human beings are particularly helpless in the dark. Not being able to see what's around us generates a feeling of insecurity. So, deprived of sight, the imagination runs riot, and our brains fill in the void with monsters under the bed! Folk tales, fairy tales and legends often reinforce this, conveying the idea that the dark is the playground of evil creatures. Why do we fear the dark ? Has it always existed ? What’s the difference between fear and phobia ? How can you overcome your fear ? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Why do we get moles?
3 Nis 20245 minThe number of moles we have on our bodies largely depends on sun exposure. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Most people have 10 to 45 moles that appear during childhood and the teenage years.” Moles can vary in thickness, shape, colour, and they sometimes even have hair. They can pop up between your toes, on your scalp, on your earlobes or under your nails-anywhere really. Rest assured, most of the time these small brown spots are completely harmless, but still it’s worth knowing some key info about moles. That's especially true given they can sometimes be cancerous, turning into a type of skin cancer called melanoma. Why do some people need to sleep more than others?
30 Mar 20245 minAs the years go by, we're getting less and less sleep. A survey by Chemist4U in 2022 found that Brits get just 6 hours and 10 minutes of sleep per night on average. Economic stress and the overwhelming demands of modern life have been blamed for this, but there’s no real evidence to back that up. Still the fact remains that not getting enough sleep can significantly impact our daily lives, so it’s a source of real frustration. Doesn’t everyone need eight hours then? Why are young people going back to flip phones?
28 Mar 20244 minFlip phones or ‘dumb’ phones as they are sometimes called are making a comeback but you might be surprised to know that it's gen Z, in other words people born between 1997 and 2010 and not your grandparents who are buying them. Well unlike smartphones, the dumb phone can only make phone calls or send text messages and with only twelve buttons and no predictive text dumbphone users get straight to the point. People like them because of their vintage appeal, but above all it meets a need to disconnect. At a time when we're constantly on our smartphones, the return to basic dumbphone functions seems to offer a breath of fresh air and a well-deserved break in our hyper-connected world. What are the strangest reactions caused by an orgasm ?
27 Mar 20245 minHaving an orgasm triggers a cascade of physiological responses, including the tightening of muscles in the pelvic and genital regions, and the release of various hormones and neurotransmitters. It sets the heart racing, ramps up breathing, and sends blood rushing to the penis or clitoris, causing them to become erect. Of course reaching orgasm isn’t guaranteed. Before it happens, there's typically a sequence of desire, arousal, and plateau. An orgasm is marked by intense muscular contractions in the genital area and a profound sense of pleasure. Sometimes, this climax can lead to intriguing reactions. What's behind the pleasure of an orgasm then? What other reactions are possible? What about spasms or tremors? How can I beat my work addiction ?
24 Mar 20245 minBeing a grafter or hustler is often portrayed in a positive light when it comes to the world of work. But there are a host of negative consequences that can arise when a person becomes a workaholic. The term was invented by American psychologist Wayne Oates back in 1971. Oates said workaholics had “an uncontrollable need to work incessantly”, and called it an addiction.
