Ebola mourners learn how to grieve safely after outbreak in DR Congo | BBC News

Mourners in DR Congo are learning how to grieve safely, as large traditional funerals are scrapped in a bid to prevent the spread of the Ebola virus. The outbreak has so far killed almost 200 people in the last few months, mainly in the province of Ituri of which Bunia is the capital. Ebola is transmitted through contact with infected bodily fluids and stringent protocols have to be followed to stop it spreading - including safe burials. One traditional practice that is now strongly discouraged is the washing of dead bodies by family members before burial.
