Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (26 April 121 – 17 March 180) was Roman emperor from 161 to 180 and a Stoic philosopher. He was a member of the Nerva–Antonine dynasty, the last of the rulers later known as the Five Good Emperors and the last emperor of the Pax Romana, an age of relative peace, calm, and stability for the Roman Empire lasting from 27 BC to 180 AD. He served as Roman consul in 140, 145, and 161. This information in this presentation is based on Marcus Aurelius' Meditations (Koinē Greek: Τὰ εἰς ἑαυτόν, romanized: Ta eis heauton, lit. ''Things Unto Himself''), a series of personal writings, private notes to himself and ideas on Stoic philosophy. Marcus Aurelius wrote the 12 books of the Meditations in Koine Greek as a source for his own guidance and self-improvement. It is possible that large portions of the work were written at Sirmium, where he spent much time planning military campaigns from 170-180 C.E. Some of it was written while he was positioned at Aquincum on campaign in Pannonia, because internal notes reveal that the first book was written when he was campaigning against the Quadi on the river Granova (modern-day Hron in Slovakia) and the second book was written at Carnuntum. It is unlikely that Marcus Aurelius ever intended the writings to be published. The work has no official title, so "Meditations" is one of several titles commonly assigned to the collection. These writings take the form of quotations varying in length from one sentence to long paragraphs.

Psychology of Evil - The Devil Archetype - Written by Eternalised
Oct 15, 2024
For many, the Devil is viewed merely as a fictional figure, a character in religious stories with no real impact on our daily lives. When discussed, the Devil is often dismissed as a construct designed to instill fear in our hearts. However, when examining the psychological aspects of this concept, there appears to be greater receptivity and more insight. It is crucial, therefore, to clarify that we are not advocating religious beliefs but rather exploring the psychological traits associated with the archetype of chaos or evil—a force that stands in opposition to order or good. The Outrage Cycle - Mark Manson
Oct 1, 2024
In this episode of After Skool, Mark Manson explains the Outrage Cycle, a wave of reactions that predictably follow any major event. In our social media age, the most extreme reaction is often the one that gets the most attention. This incentive fuels the outrage machine. When a major event happens, there is an initial viral wave, followed by a reactionary viral wave, followed by an anti-reactionary viral wave. Once these 3 waves play out, people's attention moves on to the next event, and the cycle repeats itself. The End of Time - Novelty Theory - Terence McKenna
Sep 17, 2024
Empower your critical thinking and get the full picture on every story. Subscribe through my link https://ground.news/afterskool to get 40% off unlimited access this month with their Vantage Plan. In this video, Terence McKenna explains his theory behind why the universe keeps getting more complex (Novelty Theory). This audio is from Terence McKenna's "Final Interview" in 1998. Terence Kemp McKenna (November 16, 1946 – April 3, 2000) was an American ethnobotanist and mystic who advocated the responsible use of naturally occurring psychedelic plants. He spoke and wrote about a variety of subjects, including psychedelic drugs, plant-based entheogens, shamanism, metaphysics, alchemy, language, philosophy, culture, technology, ethnomycology, environmentalism, and the theoretical origins of human consciousness. McKenna formulated a concept about the nature of time based on fractal patterns he claimed to have discovered in the I Ching, which he called novelty theory, proposing that this predicted the end of time, and a transition of consciousness in the year 2012. His promotion of novelty theory and its connection to the Maya calendar is credited as one of the factors leading to the widespread beliefs about the 2012 phenomenon. What is in the Great Beyond? - Graham Hancock
Jul 23, 2024
Death is the fundamental mystery of life. It is certain for all and yet we do not know what it means. The mystery can be reduced to simple dilemmas. When we die does everything end for us, or is there some way that we go on? Is there nothing more to us than the sum of our material parts, or does the soul exist? Is the notion of the soul a figment of human psychology, or perhaps an invention of religion? Or could it be something wonderfully real? This script was written and recorded by Graham Hancock, a British author of countless bestselling books such as, Magicians of the Gods, America Before, The Sign and the Seal, Fingerprints of the Gods, Heaven's Mirror, Underworld, Supernatural and others. He is also the creator of the Netflix series, "Ancient Apocalypse". For more information on Graham Hancock visit https://grahamhancock.com/ To support After Skool - https://www.patreon.com/AfterSkool

Lao Tzu - The Art of Not Trying
Jul 9, 2024
A curious Taoist sage, Lao Tzu, was aware of the human quirk of getting so lost in intellectual prisons that people forget the natural way. And so, they force and strive, swimming against the stream, sometimes ending up further away from their goals than when they started. So, what if we stopped trying so hard and found a different, more effortless way of getting things done? This video explores Lao Tzu & The art of not trying. How Feedback Affects Performance - Andrew Huberman - Growth Mindset
May 28, 2024
Andrew Huberman, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist and tenured professor in the department of neurobiology, and by courtesy, psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford School of Medicine. He has made numerous significant contributions to the fields of brain development, brain function and neural plasticity, which is the ability of our nervous system to rewire and learn new behaviors, skills and cognitive functioning. Huberman is a McKnight Foundation and Pew Foundation Fellow and was awarded the Cogan Award in 2017, given to the scientist making the most significant discoveries in the study of vision. His laboratory's most recent work focuses on the influence of vision and respiration on brain states such as fear and high attention focus and developing rapid and effective tools for mitigating stress, improving sleep, and other physiological metrics. The Huberman Laboratory at Stanford School of Medicine has published work in top journals such as Nature, Science, and Cell, and top media outlets like TIME, BBC, Scientific American, and Discover. In 2021, Dr. Huberman launched the Huberman Lab podcast. The podcast is often ranked in the global top 10. It is often ranked #1 in Science, Education, and Health and Fitness. In this video, Dr. Andrew Huberman explains Growth Mindset and how feedback affects performance. Feedback that is linked to identity (smart, talented, athletic) are actually detrimental to performance. Feedback that is linked to effort (you are so persistent, you never give up) enhances performance because it rewards the effort rather than the identity. This research is from Dr. Carol S. Dweck, an American psychologist who holds the Lewis and Virginia Eaton Professorship of Psychology at Stanford University. The Psychology of Malignant Narcissists - Academy of Ideas
Apr 30, 2024
The central characteristic of narcissism is an inflated sense of self. Narcissists are overconfident and admire themselves to a degree that is not warranted by the reality of who they are, or what they have accomplished. The narcissist’s infatuation with a grandiose self-image leads to self-absorption, reducing their capacity to empathize with the feelings and experiences of other people. Narcissism exists on a continuum; some of the milder forms of narcissism, such as identifying with an idealized self-image one creates on social media, are unhealthy, but relatively benign. At the extreme end of the spectrum lies the pathology of malignant narcissism, in which one identifies with an illusory self-image of moral purity. This video was made in collaboration with Academy of Ideas. They create videos explaining the ideas of history's great thinkers in order to help supply the world with more knowledge, to empower the individual, and to promote freedom. TIMELINE SPLIT - Humans Are Splitting into Different Dimensions - The Alchemist
Apr 2, 2024
In this video we explore the timeline split that is currently happening to human consciousness. One stream of consciousness is on a descending timeline and will remain in the 3rd dimension. The other stream of consciousness is ascending into the 5th dimension. Eventually these 2 timelines will completely separate, like a cell splitting through mitosis. The driving forces behind these streams of consciousness are fear and love. The Alchemist beautifully explains how these 2 paths will present themselves and how we can embark on the ascending path. Why Smart People Believe Stupid Things
Mar 19, 2024
What causes Delusion? The prevailing view is that people adopt false beliefs because they’re too stupid or ignorant to grasp the truth. But just as often, the opposite is true: many delusions prey not on dim minds but on bright ones. And this has serious implications for education, society, and you personally. In this video in collaboration with Gurwinder, we explore the reasons why intelligent people believe irrational things and what can be done to avoid the allure of delusion. The ONE RULE for LIFE - Immanuel Kant's Moral Philosophy - Mark Manson
Mar 5, 2024
The script for this animation was written and narrated by Mark Manson, an American self-help author and blogger. As of 2024, he has authored or co-authored four books, three of which, "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck", "Everything Is F*cked: A Book About Hope", and "Will", were New York Times bestsellers. In this video Mark Manson explores the moral philosophy of Immanuel Kant. Immanuel Kant (22 April 1724 – 12 February 1804) was a German philosopher and one of the central Enlightenment thinkers. Born in Königsberg, Kant's comprehensive and systematic works in epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, and aesthetics have made him one of the most influential and controversial figures in modern Western philosophy, being called the "father of modern ethics", "father of modern aesthetics" and, by bringing together rationalism and empiricism, the "father of modern philosophy". The Fourth World: An Encounter With Hopi Prophecy - Graham Hancock
Feb 20, 2024
The script for this animation comes from Graham Hancock's book, "Fingerprints of the Gods", published in 1995. In "Fingerprints of the Gods", Hancock embarks on a worldwide quest to put together all the pieces of the vast and fascinating jigsaw of mankind’s hidden past. In ancient monuments as far apart as Egypt’s Great Sphinx, the strange Andean ruins of Tihuanaco, and Mexico’s awe-inspiring Temples of the Sun and Moon, he reveals not only the clear fingerprints of an as-yet-unidentified civilization of remote antiquity, but also startling evidence of its vast sophistication, technological advancement, and evolved scientific knowledge. In this video, we focus on the final conclusion of "Fingerprints of the Gods", where Graham has an encounter with an elder of the Hopi people in New Mexico. The Hopi believe that we are walking in the last days, with a geological sword of Damocles hanging over us. According to their myths: The first world was destroyed, as a punishment for human misdemeanours, by an all-consuming fire that came from above and below. The second world ended when the terrestrial globe toppled from its axis and everything was covered with ice. The third world ended in a universal flood. The present world is the fourth. Its fate will depend on whether or not its inhabitants behave in accordance with the Creator’s plans …’ For more insight on this topic, consider checking out some of Graham Hancock's Best-Selling books, watch his series "Ancient Apocalypse" on Netflix or visit his website at https://grahamhancock.com/ This incredible flute music in this video was created by Jonny Lipford. https://www.youtube.com/@JonnyLipford - Please subscribe to Jonny's channel for more beautiful flute music.
