Can you have sex on your period?
25 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minGetting intimate while you or your partner are menstruating isn’t always straightforward. Still, the idea of period sex has gradually become less and less of a taboo over time. OK, it is potentially messy, but there’s nothing inherently wrong or unsafe with it. And if you’re in the mood for sex, it’s kind of a shame to miss out for that reason alone. Most importantly, both partners need to be fully on board. No one, female or male, should feel pressured or forced into it. Some people simply see period sex as unpleasant or messy, and if that’s the case, there’s no point trying to convince them on the spot, as it’ll likely only end up being a negative experience. Are there any benefits to period sex? Can you get pregnant from period sex? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Why do we get moles?
24 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minThe number of moles we have on our bodies largely depends on sun exposure. According to the Mayo Clinic, “Most people have 10 to 45 moles that appear during childhood and the teenage years.” Moles can vary in thickness, shape, colour, and they sometimes even have hair. They can pop up between your toes, on your scalp, on your earlobes or under your nails-anywhere really. Rest assured, most of the time these small brown spots are completely harmless, but still it’s worth knowing some key info about moles. That's especially true given they can sometimes be cancerous, turning into a type of skin cancer called melanoma. According to Cancer Research UK, “there are around 16,700 new melanoma skin cancer cases in the UK every year.” What are moles actually made of ? Which genetic factors are at play then ? Is scratching a mole really dangerous?
23 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minMoles can be flat, raised, discreet, or visible. They appear all over our skin and tend to increase in number over time. While these harmless little spots are generally not a cause for concern, they can sometimes be the source of skin cancer, so it’s important to keep an eye on them. A mole is a small, dark spot on the skin formed by a cluster of melanocytes. These are the cells responsible for producing melanin, the pigment that gives your skin its colour and helps you tan when exposed to sunlight. While melanocytes are typically spread throughout the skin, in the case of moles, they group together, creating a visible mark. Why do moles itch? What if you scratch it until it bleeds? When should you consult a dermatologist? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! To listen to the last episodes, you can click here: Why is exercise good for my skin? Why do we get moles? What is omotenashi, the Japanese art of hospitality?
23 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minIn some cultures, being well at home is all about making sure that others feel well when visiting, by welcoming them in the right way. In Japan, for example, hospitality is like an art form, and even has a name: omotenashi. You can’t really translate the concept into English; the meaning of the term goes a lot deeper than “hospitality”. It also has connotations of mindfulness. In Japanese culture, knowing how to welcome others and being totally focused on your guest go hand in hand. So you could say omotenashi is the ability to anticipate a guest’s needs before they can even think of them themselves. Hence the idea of being fully available for your guest, right from the moment they arrive. The most obvious example in Japanese culture is serving tea. Where does omotenashi come from? So you’re saying it’s not limited to the home environment, are you? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Is eating bread actually bad for you?
22 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minBread has been a staple of the human diet for over 10,000 years, when our ancestors made flatbread by baking a mixture of flour and water in the sun. To this day, the vast majority of us eat bread on a regular basis, and many of us eat it every day. But it’s been demonised to some extent in recent years, with many dieters saying it’s made up of “empty calories” and ditching it. What is the nutritional makeup of bread? Why do we startle when we fall asleep?
22 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minYou're peacefully drifting off to sleep when suddenly you feel as if you're falling into a void and you startle awake. This rather unpleasant sensation is known as a ‘hypnic jerk’ and is a common occurrence. It is an involuntary muscle spasm, a bit like a hiccup, also known as ‘myoclonus’. Sometimes, this sensation is accompanied by the feeling or the dream that you are falling. These twitches are your body’s bedtime quirks, popping up in the twilight zone of sleep – that light stage between being awake and snoozing soundly in deep sleep. They’re like an accidental alarm that can, annoyingly, snap us back to reality. As we drift off, our muscles take a breather, but our brain does a quick systems check to ensure everything’s alright, triggering that startling reflex. What’s happening when we experience these sudden spasms? Can anything amplify this startling sensation? Should we be worried about these nighttime jolts? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! What is the best way to soothe a crying baby?
22 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minGetting babies to sleep is big business, and a major source of stress for parents. There are many theories and methods: rock them, sing, let them cry it out. But now science has come to the rescue and we can finally put this question to bed. Hopefully. According to a study published in September 2022 in Current Biology, “approximately 20%–30% of infants cry excessively and exhibit sleep difficulties for no apparent reason” which of course can be exhausting for most people but can become more serious in some cases. As the study points out, it causes “parental stress and even triggering impulsive child maltreatment in a small number of cases.” So finding a way to sooth babies is important. What did the scientists discover? How did they come to these conclusions? So how do you get the baby to sleep? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! Which cooking method is the healthiest?

Why are young people going back to flip phones?
21 квіт. 2026 р. 4 minFlip phones or ‘dumb’ phones as they are sometimes called are making a comeback but you might be surprised to know that it's gen Z, in other words people born between 1997 and 2010 and not your grandparents who are buying them. Well unlike smartphones, the dumb phone can only make phone calls or send text messages and with only twelve buttons and no predictive text dumbphone users get straight to the point. People like them because of their vintage appeal, but above all it meets a need to disconnect. At a time when we're constantly on our smartphones, the return to basic dumbphone functions seems to offer a breath of fresh air and a well-deserved break in our hyper-connected world. How do you get better results with ChatGPT ?
21 квіт. 2026 р. 4 minArtificial intelligence has become a cornerstone of modern life, and since ChatGPT's launch in November 2022, its popularity has skyrocketed. Many workplaces embrace AI, with nearly half of users saying their managers encourage its use. In today’s world, mastering AI is a significant career advantage. The key is crafting efficient prompts. Is a white tongue unhealthy?
21 квіт. 2026 р. 4 minA white coating on the tongue can occur when your health is compromised, like during a cold or fever. Lifestyle factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol, and too much sugar, coffee, tea, or dairy can also contribute to this by disrupting the balance of your oral microbiota or affecting saliva production. In most cases, it’s an accumulation of bacteria and dead cells, a condition known as saburral tongue or white patches. This coating can often be removed by gently using a tongue scraper. However, other factors can lead to a thicker coating, localized patches, or even a metallic taste in the mouth. What exactly causes the tongue to turn white? Could this be a sign of infection? 20 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minAccording to the most recent figures from the Association of British Travel Agents, the number of people going on holidays alone has soared over the last decade. Why are so many young people suffering from financial dysmorphia?
19 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minWhen we hear the term dysmorphia, most of us think about body image, the gap between what we see in the mirror and reality. We’ve talked about Snapchat dysmorphia and body dysmorphia on Do You Really Know in the past. But the concept actually goes beyond physical appearance. Why do we change our hairstyle when we’re depressed?
19 квіт. 2026 р. 4 minOur hair says a lot about our personalities —it’s a core part of our identity. It reflects who we are and how we want the world to perceive us. As noted by British hair historian Caroline Cox in her book Good Hair Days, “A hairstyle is the ultimate form of self-expression. It tells the world who you are—or who you want to be.” This idea highlights the powerful role hair plays in shaping and communicating our individuality. What's the best alarm to wake up to?
19 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minDid you know that the alarm clock actually serves a greater purpose than simply rousing us from sleep? Whether it's the buzz of your smartphone, a breaking news update, or a soothing classical tune, your alarm sets the tone for the day ahead. And it can be quite the dilemma choosing between a jolting alarm which is guaranteed you wake you up or nature sounds that might end up lulling you back to sleep—or worse, not wake you up at all. Sydney Aten is an American neuroscientist who specialises in circadian rhythms and sleep. Talking to HuffPost.com for an article on alarm sounds which was published in 2023, she pointed out that waking up abruptly can be quite jarring for the body. It triggers a real surge of adrenaline, a hormone which is typically released in response to intense emotions or sensations. Basically, waking up to a loud or piercing sound can spike our heart rate and induce stress. What about using more neutral sounds then? What about hitting the snooze button - is that a good way to snag a few extra minutes of sleep? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! How can I beat my work addiction?
18 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minBeing a grafter or hustler is often portrayed in a positive light when it comes to the world of work. But there are a host of negative consequences that can arise when a person becomes a workaholic. The term was invented by American psychologist Wayne Oates back in 1971. Oates said workaholics had “an uncontrollable need to work incessantly”, and called it an addiction. It’s a real mental health condition, and like with other addictions, it manifests as the inability to stop doing something. So it basically means working really long hours, does it? What are the strangest reactions caused by an orgasm?
17 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minHaving an orgasm triggers a cascade of physiological responses, including the tightening of muscles in the pelvic and genital regions, and the release of various hormones and neurotransmitters. It sets the heart racing, ramps up breathing, and sends blood rushing to the penis or clitoris, causing them to become erect. Of course reaching orgasm isn’t guaranteed. Before it happens, there's typically a sequence of desire, arousal, and plateau. An orgasm is marked by intense muscular contractions in the genital area and a profound sense of pleasure. Sometimes, this climax can lead to intriguing reactions. What's behind the pleasure of an orgasm then? What other reactions are possible? What about spasms or tremors? What is the cocktail party effect?
17 квіт. 2026 р. 5 minImagine you're at a noisy party. People are everywhere: overlapping conversations, clinking glasses, a constant buzz of sound. And yet, in the middle of all that noise, you suddenly hear your name being called. Instantly, your attention shifts to that one voice. Why are some people constantly sexually aroused?
16 квіт. 2026 р. 6 minThe condition we’re going to talk about today is pretty rare. It affects around 1% of women, but it can really disrupt the lives of those who suffer from it. Persistent genital arousal disorder, or PGAD for short, was officially identified by the medical community back in 2001, when Sandra Leiblum and Sharon Nathan published an article about it in The Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy. At the time, they called it persistent genital arousal syndrome, and identified five specific criteria for diagnosis. These were then expanded by the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health in 2021. According to that organisation, PGAD refers to “persistent or recurrent, unwanted or intrusive, distressing sensations of genital arousal”. It is “most commonly experienced in the clitoris but also in other genito-pelvic regions” and “may include other types of genito-pelvic dysesthesia” like buzzing, tingling, burning, twitching, itch or pain.” The minimum duration for a diagnosis is 3 months. Are you saying it’s like having a constant orgasm? So where does it actually come from then? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!
