For this episode, we travelled to the Isle of Wight to spend time with the architect and founding director of Studio Weave, Je Ahn. A keen sailor, Je has been spending time in Cowes for many years. In 2020, he began re-making a barn that acts as a foil to his hectic Hackney life. He loves to open this house to guests, who typically stay for a few days, enabling a certain kind of slow, relaxed entertaining, where everyone can settle into each other’s company. “I really like spending time with people. Akilah on Assignment: #1 How does COLOUR make a house GREAT?

Welcome to the first in a series of films in which Akilah Cohen asks the simple question: what makes a house great? Episode one focuses on colour. Armed with a notebook (and, inexplicably, a pair of maracas), Akilah goes on assignment to find out how colour should be used in the home, what effect its use has on a space and ultimately, how colour can help make a house great. Akilah visits three locations: a colour masterclass hosted by Etté; the beautifully bold home of TMH clients Tom and Julian; and the only home ever to be inspired by a Disneyland rollercoaster – Mountain View by CAN. Akilah takes her boots off and quite literally launches herself into each story, asking probing questions other design sleuths wouldn’t dare before piecing her learnings together with Post-its and Sharpies to form a kaleidoscopic evidence board of inspiration. Tif Hunter explores the dark art of tintype photography at his Herefordshire barn and studio

In 2017, the photographer Tif Hunter left his London saddlery for a cluster of ruined barns at the foot of the Black Mountains. With the help of Rural Office, the barns have been gently brought back to life. At the same time, they have allowed Tif to deepen and develop his own photography practice as well as share his passion with others.
