Why are anti-migrant protests growing in South Africa? | Global News Podcast
Clue'da aç Bu video hakkında
Thousands of protesters have marched in major South African cities this week, demanding that undocumented migrants leave the country. Demonstrators say illegal immigration is putting pressure on jobs, public services and contributing to crime, while critics warn the protests risk fuelling xenophobia and attacks on foreign nationals. President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged protesters to remain peaceful, while acknowledging the need for immigration reform. Police say 25,000 migrants, most from other African countries, have been repatriated so far. New episodes of the Global News Podcast are published twice a day.
