Inside a Furniture Designer's Remote Farmhouse in France

Welcome to the fifth instalment of Wallpaper's video series, The Stuff That Surrounds You. Watch as we're invited into the intriguing and idiosyncratic homes of creatives and makers, catching a glimpse of their interior lives via the objects with which they surround themselves, all of which tell a story. For this episode, we are invited into the country home of designer Erwan Bouroullec. Dubbed La Grange, Bouroullec's home is located in rural Burgundy and is a modern restoration of an farm building. Bouroullec made subtle interventions to the existing building to modernise it, while reusing as many of the site's original materials as possible to retain the skeleton of the house. For Bouroullec – who, alongside his brother Ronan Bouroullec, has worked with major brands such as Vitra, Magis and Alessi – design is more than inspiration, it’s ‘incredibly mandatory for everyday life’. He believes spaces should offer as much stimulation as possible; sterility, in his view, is ‘harmful to your body’. Paper, the designers explain, is often the starting point of their work, as a prototyping material to test ideas. Welcome to the fourth instalment of the new Wallpaper* video series, The Stuff That Surrounds. Watch as we're invited into the intriguing and idiosyncratic homes of creatives and makers, catching a glimpse of their interior lives via the objects with which they surround themselves, all of which tell a story. In this episode, we step inside one of the most considered homes we've ever seen – the London home of designer Michael Anastassiades. The designer has called the loft-style space his home for 27 years, and has treated his home much like a testing ground for his designs, before they hit the market; you can find many early prototypes of his classic lighting designs in his home. His interior is paired back and highly personal – his collection of designs and objects is carefully curated and minimal. In fact unless an object is perfectly suited, Anastassiades prefers to live without it. While function is the main criteria for how he chooses an object to live with, the emotional and psychological aspect of a design is of huge importance to him as well. In the studio with artist María Berrío | Wallpaper*

In the work of New York-based Colombian artist María Berrío, nothing is quite as it seems. Otherworldly tales are part myth, part memory, delicately rendered in watercolour on Japanese paper. Her paintings are unexpectedly rife with familiar and contemporary detailing, in a meeting of worlds real and imagined. It is a style that is reflective of Berrío herself. Growing up in Bogotá, she spent much of her time on a family farm, triggering the love of nature and storytelling she was to build on later. Beginning first by drawing large-scale works in charcoal – ‘it was a way of connecting me to the world,’ she says – Berrío became fascinated with Japanese paper, using it to create collages. In the physical and symbolic act of layering, collage makes a natural medium from which to explore the intersection of past and present. Inside AP House in Manchester | Audemars Piguet | Wallpaper*

The traditional watch boutique tends to present its wares in vitrines and on velvet cushions. Audemars Piguet, however, has been reimagining the setting as a luxurious immersive experience, creating convivial spaces in the likes of Amsterdam, New York, Tokyo and Zurich. At these AP Houses, the Swiss manufacturer’s chronographs and grand complications are showcased against a harmonious backdrop of art, design, music and cocktails. The latest AP House – a double-fronted Georgian townhouse on Manchester’s King Street – is the brand’s second in the UK. The sensitively renovated, Grade II-listed property presents a clean, minimalist counterpart to the watches’ complex architectural codes, while curated details, objets and motifs reflect the history and culture of the northern city. This episode, we’re invited inside an architectural gem: the brutalist home of Belgian architect Glenn Sestig - one of the most distinctive voices in the field today. Designed by Ivan Van Mossevelde for two art collectors and completed in 1972, the house came into Sestig's hands in 2017, and went through a sensitive restoration, to update and strengthen the original architecture of Van Mossevelde. Inside the fantastical world of performance artist Darrell Thorne | Wallpaper*

Darrell Thorne appears like a glitch in the Matrix. Ornate and mirrored, headdress high, often on prosthetic stilts, body painted, horned, winged, caped, crowned (sometimes all at once), he doesn’t enter so much as materialise. Not quite male or female, not entirely human or alien, he moves through space as something in-between. A guest from another realm, summoned by those who find the visible world insufficient. Gala committees, fashion houses and private clients seek him out for something that floats beyond the boundaries of reality. Part character designer, part performance artist, pure spectacle, Thorne turns flesh into fantasy. When pop’s grandes dames (Liza, Cher, Madonna) crave something otherworldly, they turn to his singular talents. A profile of Thorne appears as our cover story for Wallpaper's 2025 US Issue, which celebrates America’s rambunctious and resilient creative spirit in turbulent times. To accompany the story, we followed Thorne and his family as they prepared to walk in the annual Mermaid Parade on New York's Coney Island for a short film profile. Exploring Richard Rogers' illustrious career | Private View | Architecture | Wallpaper*

Richard Rogers is an undisputed occupant of the architectural hall of fame. Renowned for his high-tech designs, Rogers left an indelible mark on cities around the world with his buildings, eight which are included in a new London retrospective of the architect's career now on show at the Sir John Soanes Museum. Curated and designed by Rogers son, Ab Rogers - the exhibition tracks his career from from 1967 to 2020 through some his key projects. Speaking to Wallpaper* Rogers explained how his father throughout his career was 'passionate about the city', creating space for the pedestrian and encouraging the public to engage with architecture. Welcome to the second instalment of the new Wallpaper* video series, The Stuff That Surrounds. Watch as we're invited into the intriguing and idiosyncratic homes of creatives and catching a glimpse of their interior lives via the objects with which they surround themselves, all of which tell a story. Next up we are invited into the home of Yasmin Sewell, the founder and CEO of wellbeing brand Vyrao. When she started her wellbeing brand Vyrao in 2021, she sought to combine her expertise and, with her genderless, natural and vegan eau de parfums, incense and candles, ‘fuse energetic healing with master perfumery’. Vyrao aims to enhance spiritual wellbeing through scent – or ‘[bottle] joy’ – even claiming to use neuroscience principles in the creation of its fragrances to activate emotional and memory centres in the brain. Sewell’s ‘take on wellness’, which she defines as ‘our energetic, spiritual emotional wellbeing’, continues in her home, which is filled with objects that make her happy. ‘I always choose things that make me feel great when I see them,’ she says. ‘I fall for them in some way, for whatever reason that I can't totally explain.’ Watch the full film to find out more about Yasmin Sewell and visit wallpaper.com for more.
