NARRATOR: Dazzling performances. Sly shape shifting. Devious deception. Super senses. Nature unleashes an arsenal of tools, when surprising skills become

deadly secret weapons, in the ultimate battle for survival. The ultimate secret weapon in the animal world is the ability to morph into an entirely different creature or at least, look like one. An eight-legged sea creature descends from above, ready to transform

on the sea floor. This is the mimic octopus or what we like to call octopus prime, and its shape shifting abilities are legendary. With no bones, no spine, and no poison, the mimic octopus makes for an appetizing meal.

While many sea creatures use camo to ambush and hunt, octopus prime uses it to survive. It isn't what the mimic octopus can do that is deadly. it's what enemies think it can do.

A shape shifting artist of the sea, the mimic octopus transforms into poisonous predators. An eel approaches. Initiate banded sea krait, ten times more venomous than a rattle snake.

If a shark shows interest, initiate peacock sole, a poisonous flatfish thought to release a shark repelling defensive secretion. By changing colour and shape, the octopus imitates the venomous barbs of a lionfish. And whatever it's mimicking here is enough to stop an

attacking crab in its tracks. In all, it's known to replicate over 15 different species. If only predators looked past the charades, they might find a meal. These predators won't be fooled, so they think.

Armed with torpedo like bodies and fearsome canine teeth, sea lions are elite hunters. Today, the target is small and seemingly simple. The porcupinefish may look defenceless, but this fish has a shapeshifting trick up his fin.

Quickly ingesting water, the porcupinefish inflates into a spiky ball several times its normal size. Now, the porcupinefish is almost impossible to catch and also lethal. Deep inside the fish's organs is a poison called tetrodotoxin,

1,200 times more deadly than cyanide. This "easy" meal has turned into a dangerous game the sea lions don't want to play. Victorious, the porcupinefish deflates. Unlike other transformers who may blow a fuse when it

comes time to fight, this fish simply blows up. From the sea floor, to the tree tops, shapeshifters transform to survive and to kill. This forest is not a realm of give and take. The chameleon is like a terminator of the reptile kingdom.

And woe be to any insect that gets in the way. Careful not to disturb any unsuspecting prey, the chameleon changes colour with the temperature and with its mood. Capable of seeing up to 180 degrees in any direction,

the chameleon doesn't miss a beat or a cricket. No need to be close. With a lethal shape shifting transformation, the chameleon unleashes hell. Its tongue shoots out, and in mere milliseconds, doubles the length of its body.

Accelerating from zero to six metres per second, the chameleon annihilates prey. Hasta la vista, insects. One turbocharged changeling goes beyond shape shifting to complete metamorphosis. This is a nymph, an underwater creature only two centimetres

long. And it's very, very hungry. Just a few months old, the nymph is still growing. Using an extendable lower lip like a spear gun, the nymph shoots, captures, and eats just about anything that moves.

With such a voracious appetite, the nymph quickly outgrows its own skin. Over and over again. In all, the nymph will molt up to 15 times. Like a super mutant transformer, the nymph can no longer
