The term refers to the use of robotic technology and electronic systems for controlling home appliances and devices. It’s also known as home automation, or simply a “smart home”. And indeed the use of smart home devices has really taken off in the last decade or so. Devices like smart thermostats, security systems, intelligent lights and smart appliances have become more and more common. According to data shared by Finbold in 2021, 24.9% of internet users in the UK said they owned smart home devices.
