About this episode

The Honours list is a way of recognising people who have made achievements in public life or committed themselves to serving and helping the UK. The honours system is overseen by the Cabinet Office and the King approves the final list of recipients. There are different types of honours, such as knighthoods, damehoods, orders of the British Empire, and medals.  Anyone can nominate someone for an honour, as long as they are not a close relative or an employee. The nominations are then reviewed by independent committees of experts, who make recommendations to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister then submits a final list to the King, who has the final say. Who is on the Honours list this year? What are the different honours? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions!
