Motherkind
Zoe Blaskey
Motherkind is the podcast for women who know that motherhood changes everything — and want to grow forward, not “bounce back”. Hosted by Zoe Blaskey, Motherkind explores the profound personal, emotional and professional transformation that happens when you become a mother. This is a space for women navigating the wild, identity-shifting years of motherhood who want to reclaim confidence, redefine ambition, and build a life that works for who they are now. Each week, Zoe sits down with world-leading experts, thought leaders, psychologists, authors and well-known figures to unpack the real experiences of modern motherhood — from matrescence and identity loss to confidence, boundaries, work, relationships and self-worth. Expect honest conversations, evidence-based insight and practical tools that help you move through this season with clarity and strength. Motherkind is not about doing more, fixing yourself, or returning to who you were before children. It’s about becoming who you are now — with intention, compassion and growth. If you’re a mother who wants to feel more like herself again — confident, grounded and excited about what’s next — this is your place. Motherkind: for the woman behind the mother.

How to heal your mother wound with Bethany Webster
16 sept. 202150 minThis is such a powerful episode. My guest today is Bethany Webster. She is the global expert on healing the mother wound. You might be thinking what is the mother wound? Do I have one? How do I know if I have one? Bethany would say most of us are carrying some wounding from our own mothers. The mother wound is when we split off from our authentic selves because of conscious and subconscious messages from our own mothers about who we need to be, about who they need us to be or about who society needs us to be. Our beliefs about ourselves are generally formed between the ages of 0-7. That is so powerful. And that is exactly the same time we need our caregiver’s love to survive. So what do we do? We adapt. We split off from who we really are to become who we think we need to be in order to get that love. And that is the mother wound. It is important to say that this is not about mother bashing or shaming our mothers. We are all mothers and know how challenging this role is. Bethany’s call to us is to look at this so it may be less likely that we will pass it on to our own daughters. This is an incredibly powerful episode and I think Bethany’s work is game-changing. We chat about: What is the mother wound Why we need to talk about it Shame-based identity What is the mother gap and how do we fill it Healing intergenerational patterns The difference between blaming and taking responsibility FREEBIES! Re-release - Reflections on motherhood and redefining success with Ella Mills
2 sept. 202152 minThis week, I’m super excited to be speaking with Ella Mills. Ella is the founder and creator of Deliciously Ella. From her early beginnings as a blogger, Ella has grown the brand into a hugely successful company, spanning a number of bestselling cookbooks, an app, a deli in central London and a range of plant-based food products. I’ve been following Ella online for a long time and we had such a brilliant conversation about motherhood and redefining success. Ella is mum to her daughter Skye, who just turned one. When we recorded this conversation, she was 33 weeks pregnant and getting ready to give birth to her second child. We talked about Ella’s experience of early motherhood from her first pregnancy and what she plans to do differently this time. She shares her journey with guilt and pressure and how she is finding balance as a mother and founder of a a very busy, successful company. We also talk about Ella’s own childhood and how it’s shaped how she is now raising her own daughters. I really loved my conversation with Ella, and I hope you enjoy it too. Re-release - How to heal yourself with Dr. Nicole Le Pera
26 août 20211h 5mWelcome to this week’s episode. It’s a very special one. Perhaps one of the most important conversations I’ve ever had on the podcast. Dr. Nicole Le Pera, who you might know as the holistic psychologist, was trained in clinical psychology at Cornell University and the School for Social Research. As a clinical psychologist with her own private practice, she found herself really frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. And I know many of you have experienced that and I have experienced that myself. Wanting more for her patients and for herself. She began a journey to develop a philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual health to help people heal themselves. After experiencing the life-changing results herself, she began to share what she’d learned with others—and soon “The Holistic Psychologist”, now with over 3.5 million followers, was born. This work and this conversation that we have is a paradigm shift. Her teachings empower us in actually quite simple ways to break free from the generational cycles that we get stuck in and to create who we really are and who we want to become. This is what she calls self-healing. The massive changes I have experienced in myself have not come from traditional therapy. They have come from me observing a behavior in myself I want to change, trying a new behavior and becomming aware of what I have noticed. Journaling is probably the cornerstone of that practice for me, and that’s why you hear me talk about it week in and week out. This is a really important conversation. We talk about how behaviors get passed down through the generations. There is nothing more profound for us to do as mothers and parents than to work on our own stuff. The sad truth is that what we don’t heal we can pass on. And that is why this inner work is so important. This conversation is like the masterclass about why that is and how to do it. I wish every parent could listen to this conversation. What a shift we would see in the world. If you enjoy it and it resonates and you feel empowered and inspired please share it. It was amazing for me to sit with Dr. Nicole. I hope you enjoy it. We talk about: Why your past is still informing your present How to stop living on auto-pilot How to heal your deepest patterns, on a daily basis Why modeling to our children is the most effective way to teach them Learn more about your ad choices. In the episode, Tara shares about how we have the power to create whatever we want in our life through understanding how the brain works. We talk about how so many of us are living on autopilot and not asking ourselves the profound question, 'What do I really want out of life?'. We also talk about the science behind the law of attraction, manifestation, journalling and gratitude, which are all tools we explore regularly here on the podcast. This felt like such a timely conversation to have - here in the UK, we have just gone back into lockdown so speaking with Tara was a real gift. I hope you find it helpful. Re-release - How to become the person you were meant to be with Laurie Gerber
11 août 202145 minI have a fantastic episode for you this week. The Handel Group work with some of the world’s top celebrities, including Eva Longoria and Hugh Jackman. We talk a lot about empowerment during the episode and how to become the person you were meant to be. We also talk about how we can ‘alchemise’ the way that we were parented and show up for our children differently. I was really inspired by Laurie’s message – I think you’ll be able to hear the symmetry and energy between us in our conversation and I hope you enjoy the episode! Learn more about your ad choices. Re-release - Why parenting is generational with Philippa Perry
5 août 20211h 2mAfter reading The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read (and Your Children Will Be Glad That You Did), I knew I had to get Philippa Perry on the podcast. She is a renowned psychotherapist, author, journalist, and television presenter, and the wife of artist Grayson Perry. In this episode, she helps us unpack what gets in the way of connecting with our children. She would like children to be able to tell their parents absolutely anything. And, as parents, she says it could be dangerous to close that down. If we can have a strong healthy connection with our kids, the future can take care of itself. We dig into: How to have connected, trusting relationships with our children (even if we didn't have that with our own parents) What gets in the way of having a good connection with our kids and what can enhance it The trouble with not feeling our own pain The generational cycles of parenting What does it mean to give our kids 'enough' attention Authenticity vs perfection parenting How to help children express anger without acting out There is so much heart and wisdom in this exchange with Philippa. How to challenge your imposter voice with Dr. Jessamy Hibberd
29 juil. 202148 minI have a beautiful conversation for you today with Dr. Jessamy Hibberd. She is a clinical psychologist, a speaker, and best selling author. We chat about her approach to happiness and managing the mind, and we take a deep dive into her new book The Imposter Cure and how to challenge our imposter voice. I wonder if you experienced imposter syndrome? I know I have. I actually think many of us experience it whether at work or home or both. The ideas we discuss feel transformational, moving us past this idea that we are a fraud and into this idea that we are just a human doing your best with good days and bad days as everyone else. If you are listening and thinking about a friend who is perhaps experiencing imposter syndrome and you wish they could see how untrue that is, please do share this episode. How to find inspiration everywhere with Light Watkins
22 juil. 202154 minMy guest today is internationally acclaimed meditation teacher, speaker, and author Light Watkins. I’ve been looking forward to this conversation for a really long time having followed Light’s work for a while now. I think you’ll agree with me that he has an incredibly calming and grounding energy that I hope in turn helps you feel those qualities while you listen. Light explains how he committed to sending out a daily dose of inspiration everyday to his email list beginning from 2016. Some of those emails have now come together in Light’s new book, Knowing Where to Look, 108 daily doses of inspiration. We talk about the power of consistency and what it took to send out a daily email like that. And also how it is possible to find inspiration wherever we look. Light shares how we can all find inspiration just by training ourselves to look for it. I talk about that a lot, that what we focus on gets bigger. This isn’t about ignoring those challenging feelings and the hard stuff at all. We have to process that. We just also need to be able to hold the duality of focusing on what is good as well. Well-being tools for when you have no time with Richie Norton
15 juil. 202147 minThis week’s guest says that we can start to feel better, more alive, and more vital in just one minute. Richie Norton is an ex-professional rugby player turned yoga and breathwork practitioner. An injury sadly ended his sports career, but then he discovered the transformative power of yoga and breathwork and has spent the past 10 years working alongside sports teams, entrepreneurs and celebrities to help them maximise every aspect of their physical and mental health. You might be thinking his current life set-up feels very far from ours, he is not a parent and his time is still somewhat his own, but the reason I was so keen to speak with Richie is his incredible way of making powerful well-being intentions really accessible. I think that Richie really gets what it is like to be time-poor yet wanting to feel different and better. I love his energy and I hope you do too. Speaking with him really connected me to this incredible power that we all have to feel differently and do something no matter how short on time we are to help us feel better. How to raise emotionally healthy children with Dr. Gordon Neufeld
8 juil. 202154 minDr. Gordon Neufeld is one of the world’s leading child psychologists. I discovered his work because he co-authored a book with Gabor Mate. Who, as you know if you have been a long-time listener, has been on the podcast and has had a huge impact on me. That episode is still one of the most downloaded that we have ever had on the podcast. Gordon co-authored a book with Gabor called Hold on To Your Kids. Scheduling this episode has been 2 years in the making. I really want to speak with the leading authorities in their field. These people are incredibly busy and hard to schedule, including this one with Gordon. His bio is too extensive to list it all here, but briefly, he has worked as a child therapist and consultant for over 40 years, is a best-selling author, international speaker and consultant and founder of the Neufeld Institute. Dr. Neufeld’s life’s work and his passion has been to help adults provide the conditions for children to flourish. He is a father of five and a grandfather to six. This is an incredibly powerful episode. Especially when I asked him about how I handled a situation with Jessie just earlier this week. And I think you’ll be surprised by his answer just as I was. Light bulbs were going off for me this entire episode and I learned so much from our conversation. My main takeaway from this episode is that emotional health is messy. So much of what we think of as good in our children is actually them repressing their big messy loud feelings and he talks brilliantly about some of the consequences of that and what happens when children start to repress their feelings when they don’t think their parents can handle it. We chat about: What is peer attachment vs peer orientation? Why emotional health is messy and how to work through it A recent situation I had with Jessie and Gordon’s advise Where is the story of emotional health? Working with the emotional playground The consequences of our children holding back their feelings As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. The Key to Unlocking Your Mind’s Potential with Dominique Antiglio
1 juil. 202149 minHave you heard of Sophrology? No, well, I hadn’t actually either until I started preparing for this episode. And now I’ve got to say, I’m really excited about it. Sophrology is a form of dynamic meditation practice - the Guardian calls it the “dynamic young cousin” of mindfulness - and the Independent said “While many people try and fail to reap the benefits of meditative practices, taking up Sophrology could be the key to unlocking your mind’s potential." Dominique Antiglio is the world’s leading Sophrologist, she is a best-selling author and founder of BeSophro, a global Sophrology platform. She is also a mum to 5-year-old Elliot. She specialises in stress management, anxiety reduction and burnout prevention. Three things that I think every mother on the planet experiences. It can be done lying down, sitting, standing up and even whilst moving, and combines breathwork, meditation, visualisation exercises and light body movement to engage both the mind and body to bring you into presence so you can better manage daily pressures. Generally, practising it teaches you how to become more mindful of your needs, strengths, limits and your capabilities so that we can create capacity within ourselves to better manage life’s challenges. I loved both learning about Sophrology and getting to know Dominique. She is incredibly inspiring. I think you’ll agree I found her energy really calming and grounding. This was a very calming episode. I hope you love it. As ever, if you did please review it. Let’s get the world out there to support more mothers. The messy middle with Clemmie Telford
24 juin 202146 minThis week's guest is Clemmie Telford. Many of you will know Clemmie. She is a podcaster, creative strategist curator of the Mother of All Lists blog and now author. What you might not know is that I've known Clemmie since she was 18. One of her best friends from university is also one of my best friends from where I grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon. So, we have known each other a very long time. It is always such a joy to get to chat with her. In this episode we start by talking about the impact this past year has had on her. Like so many of us, it has led her to question a lot, deepening her own path of self-inquiry. She bravely and honestly shares what it's like for her right now. She is in what I call the messy middle when you begin to question your own life. Motherhood is a huge trigger for this. It’s a time when we begin to question who we are beyond society's expectations. She is asking herself this question - Who am I really? Clemmie also has a new book out called But Why? She attempts to get to the bottom of some of life's trickiest questions. We talk about what this process has been like for her and the new direction her career has taken her in. I hope you enjoy this episode. It is very real, raw, and honest and I am sure many of you will relate and find comfort and truth in her words. Empowered transitions with Alister Gray
17 juin 202155 minWelcome to this episode of The Motherkind podcast. This week is with Alister Gray. He is a transformational coach who infuses neuroscience, intuition, psychology, mindfulness and meditation into his coaching. He is also the founder of Mindful Talent and co-founder of Mindful Talent Training Academy, which delivers coach and leadership training and workshops to some of the biggest brands in the world. This is a special episode for me because Alister is also my coach. I did the advanced transformational coach training with Mindful Talent. It was an incredible experience, and I still work with Alister today as part of his mastermind group. I find Alister incredibly inspiring. A few years back, Alister realised his life was out of alignment. He looked very successful on the outside but he felt totally lost on the inside. He also felt disconnected and stressed and I know many of us including myself know what this feels like. As it is with so many people, it was his body that first started showing the signs and he shares the story in this episode. If you have ever felt like your life looks good on paper, but you don’t feel joy and connection, then this episode is going to be incredibly powerful for you. Since then, Alister has been on a path to help others realize their real potential. Including me. I challenge you not to cry over the gift he wishes for all mothers. It’s so beautiful. We talk about: His recent move to Costa Rica with his family Where does safety and security come from The work he and his partner did prior to the birth of their daughter How he jumped from a profession in recruitment to coaching What does he say to people who are at the start of considering a transition How he keeps faith and trust during challenging times His intention as a father to Rumi His gift for all mothers in the world and why LAST FEW SPACES FOR MY GROUP PROGRAMME BEGINNING 23 JUNE I believe never before has the need for connection, sharing and support been greater for mothers. Re-release: Breaking the superwoman addiction with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz
11 juin 202147 minI’m re-releasing this important episode covering Matrescence with the wonderful Amy Taylor-Kabbaz. Amy is an author, journalist and a matrescence activist. Her latest book, ‘Mama Rising: Discovering the New You Through Motherhood’ , is brilliant and was released last year. For the last 10 years, Amy’s work has revolved around her search for an answer to the question of what happens to a woman when she becomes a mother. Amy’s search began after not being able to find anything that described the experience she had been through in her own journey to motherhood, until she came across the word ‘matrescence’. Matrescence means the experience of becoming a mother and the radical identify shift that goes along with it. Amy describes this in such a beautiful way – she says that when we become a mother, ‘we split in two’ – the person we used to be and the mother we are becoming. And, unless we honour that shift, we can get lost in the process of trying to figure out exactly who we are now. I know I really relate to this, and that many of you do, too. I really enjoyed my conversation with Amy and I think you’re going to get a lot out of this episode. As always, the conversation continues over on Instagram so do come and join us there. +++ As you might know, my 121 coaching is sold out with a waitlist. I'm so passionate about supporting more mothers, I've decided I'm going to launch my first ever group programme next week, there's space for just 30 of our community - find out more and register https://www.motherkind.co/group-programme +++ Learn more about your ad choices. The secret to enriching your child's emotional health with Kate Silverton
3 juin 202151 minKate Silverton has been a journalist for 25 years. She is one of the BBCs leading and most popular broadcasters. Kate has spent decades interviewing leading figures throughout the world, from politicians through to celebrities and scientists. What you might not know about Kate, is that throughout it all her lifelong passion has been to advocate for children and their emotional well-being. Her academic roots are in child development with a BSc in psychology. After having children of her own, Kate decided to retrain as a child psychotherapist. She is currently volunteering as a counsellor on placement working with children at a London primary school. Kate’s counselling work with children, her own personal experience of psychotherapy and the interviews she has conducted with world-renowned psychiatrists, neuroscientists and psychotherapists have all informed her approach and the concept in her Sunday times bestseller There is no such thing as naughty. Her philosophy is, which is all rooted in neuroscience, ‘If we get it right from conception to five, we can set our children up for life’. And her passion is to share what she has learned with as many parents as she can, to help them to have the parenting experience they always hoped to have, and for their children to have the parenting experience they deserve. As you can imagine we had a wonderful chat. We have this absolute shared passion for fostering emotional health in our children and ourselves. That is the most important thing. I say this so often because I’m so passionate about it, just like Kate. There is nothing more important than emotional health and we now know that from so many of the studies that Kate and I talk about during this episode. Kate shared how much joy she is getting from hearing from people about the concepts she is talking about. I’d love to hear from you about what you think of the episode, the book and what she shares. How society fails mothers with Eliane Glaser
27 mai 202152 minMy guest this week, Eliane Glaser, says that mothers are trying too hard and society is not trying nearly hard enough. She says worldwide mothers are overworked, underpaid, often lonely, and made to feel guilty about everything. She says that motherhood is one of modern society’s awkward little secrets and that fixing this is the unfinished work of feminism. How powerful is that - Motherhood is feminism’s unfinished business. She is an author, a BBC radio producer, a research fellow at the school of advanced study UEL, and has just released a powerhouse of a book called, Motherhood: a Manifesto. We talk about the really helpful distinction between motherhood the experience - the joyful, hard mess of it, the intoxicating love, and yet the fear and rage (all those feelings which I’m sure all as mothers of you can relate to) and the institution of motherhood with its societal messages and the systems that are set up or not to support us. This is such a helpful distinction because it enables us to bring more nuance to the conversation than is often present. It enables us to love the experience of being a mother, most of the time, imperfectly, while also allowing us to feel rage and anger at the system and the cultural messages we operate in and that often let us down. This conversation is a little bit different from what we usually talk about on the podcast but I think it is such a brilliant complement to last week’s episode about The Motherhood Penalty and I found it really enlightening and fascinating. Her book is full of data and statistics which you’ll hear throughout the episode. I hope you really enjoy it. Please do let me know what you think. We talk about: The data and statistics of motherhood Why motherhood is a barrier to equality Motherhood the experience vs motherhood the institution And so much more At a time when women are supposed to be more liberated than ever before, modern motherhood has become rigidly perfectionist.- Eliane Glaser As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. The motherhood penalty with Joeli Brearley
24 mai 202159 minHave you heard of the phrase the motherhood penalty? This week’s guest, Joeli Brearly, founder of the brilliant Pregnant Then Screwed charity is on a mission to help us understand what it means and also how to do something about it. She set up Pregnant Then Screwed after being sacked when she was just 4 months pregnant. It started as a project to collect other women’s experiences and now seven years later it is a leading charity supporting thousands of mothers each week who have faced discrimination at work. If you are not familiar with it, it’s worth looking up. Reading Joeli’s book, The Motherhood Penalty was incredibly eye-opening for me. I loved digging into the data on this. My intention with this episode was to bring awareness to this issue and bring to light some of the shocking data and statistics around what it means and how the system is basically rigged against us. Joeli explains why brilliantly in this episode. I hope this conversation inspires you to do something about it and think about how we can all support each other to make it a fairer playing field for mothers. If you can get the book I highly recommend it, but if you can’t she shares amazing information on so much on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The power of surrender with Nicky Clinch
22 avr. 202158 minThis week’s episode is a special one with Nicky Clinch. Nicky is a maturation coach & facilitator, integrative holistic counsellor, author, mentor & CEO. She is also one of my very dearest friends. We recorded this episode together to celebrate the release of her first book Surrender. In the book she shares many inspiring stories including her own about what it means to let go of who we have told ourselves we should be in the world and begin to explore who we actually are. Nicky calls this the process of surrender. We talk a lot about her marriage in this episode. Unbelievably, through the process of writing this book about how to surrender and grow into our truest selves, her marriage broke down. It is a very moving, raw and courageous story with an extraordinary outcome. We also talk about transitioning out of lockdown. She emigrated to New Zealand while writing this book. She shares what it has been like for her two young children coming out of lockdown. We have what I feel is a useful conversation about how we can support ourselves and our children as we in the UK are transitioning out of lockdown. Please do check out her new book Surrender it is out on the first of June and available for pre-order. I have ordered several books for my friends. We talk about: - Why the book is called Surrender - The basis of her repaired marriage - How her marriage was mirroring her childhood - What does it mean to let go of pictures - Why living in alignment is so important - How to break free from our stories - How to come out of lockdown THIS EPISODE IS SPONSORED BY NHS TEST AND TRACE With the kids finally back at school and some normalcy returning, we are all keen to keep life moving. 8 avr. 202153 minWelcome to another episode of the Motherkind podcast. As mothers, we’ve held a lot this past year. I hear almost every day stories of you feeling exhausted, low of energy, and burnt out. My guest this week, Selina Barker, says that we don’t need to accept that as our status quo and we have so much more power to change how we feel than we think we do. She says that learning to manage her own energy, now means that she feels calmer, more grounded, and more energised than even before her pre-child self. And that’s what this episode can offer you too. This episode is full of practical tools and ideas. It’s quite a big promise but I do believe that if you put into practice at least 1 or 2 of the suggestions that Selina shares you will experience a difference. A radical approach to marriage with Kaley and Nate Klemp
1 avr. 202158 minIt is well documented that times of dramatic societal change, like the one we are in now, can either undo relationships or strengthen them. My guests this week are married couple Kaley and Nick Klemp and they found their relationship nearly undone to the point of break-up because of power struggles they were experiencing over trying to make things fair. So they decided to try a new approach which they call the 80/80 Marriage. The idea is that each person gives 80% as opposed to the traditional 50%, which is what they call radical generosity. It’s based on giving more than required. It’s not based on traditional gender roles or this idea of fairness. You may be thinking I am barely able to give 50%. How can you be suggesting we give more? I hear you on that and I do challenge them on that exact point. Their answer was fascinating. This is a model that rather than being based on what’s best for me, asks what’s best for us. Simple but quite radical if you think about what that might mean. I cannot wait to hear what you think about this idea. Would you be willing to give it a go? What difference do you think it might make in your marriage or any relationship? We talk about: - What is an 80/80 marriage? - Why the 50/50 marriage almost destroyed their marriage - How equality left them feeling resentful in the marriage - What is the 80/50 hangover - How has the Pandemic intersected with the 80/80 concept - What does radical generosity look like in a marriage - Letting go of the scorecard and transitioning beyond resentment - How to balance your professional pursuits - How their marriage feels today - Tools that make a difference As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there. Why your childhood still matters today with Stephanie Stahl
11 mars 202159 minWelcome to this week’s episode. As you know if you are a regular listener to this podcast, what we experience in our childhood unconsciously shapes and determines our entire approach to life as adults. Once we know this, it gives us something very powerful. And that is choice. Once we have a choice to become aware of our unconscious belief patterns and where they come from in our childhood, then we can change them. I find that the most exciting thing in the world. Regardless of how you were parented or how your early experiences were you have the power to change how you show up in parenthood. And I believe that is whole, full of love, and infinite potential. And that is what this week’s episode is all about. It will show you how to connect to your childhood experiences if you want to enact change as an adult. If you are getting stuck it could be because of something that happened in your childhood. Stephanie Stahl is known as Germany’s psycho-therapist superstar. Her latest one, the Child in You, is brilliant. It’s been a multimillion best seller in Europe and it’s about to be released in the UK. I loved how practical the book is. 4 mars 202146 minMy guest on this week’s episode wants you to know that you are worthy of living a life that feels good. She also wants you to know that you are capable of achieving that. But you need to make a conscious decision about how you show up for yourself. My guest is Heather Chauvin and after her youngest son was born she was diagnosed with stage four cancer.
