00:00 - Intro 00:33 - Mercado de Mariscos 2:05 - Sisu Coffee Studio 3:04 - Amador Causeway 3:44 - Chagres River 4:06 - Emberá Parara Parú 5:12 - Quebrada Bonita 6:02 - Love Tunnel 6:12 - Isla Mamey 6:55 - Restaurante Adriana 7:59 - Outro

Local Lens: A food lover’s guide to Panama, Central America
12 mar 2025
Join superstar chef José Olmedo Carles Rojas and his filmmaker wife Chevy Tyler as they eat their way through the country, from Panama City to the Caribbean coast. Read our interview here: https://www.expedia.com/magazine/local-lens-food-lovers-guide-panama Did you know that in Panama, you can hop from the Pacific to the Atlantic in just two hours? José and Chevy kick off their adventure in Panama City and its old town, Casco Antiguo: a melting pot of nationalities, folkloric dance, rooftop bars, tempting restaurants and always—always—music. Wake up early with José and Chevy as they hit the nearby Mercado de Mariscos, the capital’s vibrant and sociable fish market, where visitors can buy seafood, gobble a fresh ceviche, or sit back and watch the spectacle. After a tasting of—as José puts it—“badass coffee” at Sisu Coffee Studio, a space run by Geisha pioneers the Lamastus family, José and Chevy hire bikes on the Amador Causeway at sunset. Follow them past the iconic Panama Canal and Frank Gehry’s colorful Biomuseo, a museum dedicated to Panama’s biodiversity. Day two begins with a dawn ride in a dugout canoe to a very special place: the Indigenous village community of Emberá Parara Purú. Living deep in the rainforest of the Chagres National Park, the community welcomes José and Chevy with open arms, showing them how to cook, dance, live and play the Emberá way. With the village’s message of sustainability in mind, the couple immerse themselves in nature with a hike to the beautiful Quebrada Bonita waterfall. And as José points out, “When you meet a waterfall, there’s only one thing to do: jump in!” The next stop is the fort town of Portobelo, home to the country’s Afro-Antillean culture and the Congo dance of Colón, and a great base to explore the laid-back islands of the region. José and Chevy take us to Isla Mamey the local way via the heart-shaped Love Tunnel, then onto the white-sand beaches, where the pace slows down and the Caribbean vibe kicks in. There’s only one place this odyssey could end: Restaurante Adriana, right on the water at La Guaira beach. Cold drinks, hot sauce, ingredients as local as they come—and a reunion with chef Alina, who José used to visit regularly after a tiring day of surfing. This really is Panama on a plate. 00:00 - Intro 00:33 - Mercado de Mariscos 2:05 - Sisu Coffee Studio 3:04 - Amador Causeway 3:44 - Chagres River 4:06 - Emberá Parara Parú 5:12 - Quebrada Bonita 6:02 - Love Tunnel 6:12 - Isla Mamey 6:55 - Restaurante Adriana 7:59 - Outro

21 ago 2024
Chris Burkhardt, a photographer and avid traveler, shares his perspective on how to truly experience new places, emphasizing that "memories" are deeper than photographs. He encourages fully engaging all senses to "capture the moment" rather than immediately taking pictures. This video offers a unique take on "storytelling" and the essence of "photography" for every journey. Chris Burkard has photographed some of the most remote spots on the planet. He’s famous for creating photographs that connect. Chris’s film is a must-watch for budding travel and nature photographers looking for advice and inspiration. You’ll also learn how arriving by bike can sometimes lead to cake. Local Lens: A brothers’ guide to Scotland with Colin and Ewan McGregor
13 mar 2024
Hollywood actor, UNICEF ambassador and director, Ewan McGregor and his former pilot brother, Colin reconnect in Scotland against the backdrop of the Cairngorms’ lush mountains, shimmering lochs, and the majestic trees of the Hermitage forest. First stop along the epic road trip is the Newtonmore Grill Truckstop. Locally known as “the best kept secret in the Highlands,” the no-fuss, no-frills café is a scenic spot to fill up on haggis lasagne, with a strong cup of tea. An excellent meal before an exciting, winding adventure. For a gentle hike, the brothers explore The Hermitage, a forest woodland in Perthshire, with staggeringly tall trees, a medieval history, and Ossian’s Hall folly overlooking the Black Linn waterfall. As all explorers know, you should always pack a snack. In preparation for a bigger hike in the Cairngorms mountain range, Colin and Ewan stop off at the Aran Bakery in Dunkeld, a bright and airy foodie magnet on the charming Atholl Street, opposite The Scottish Deli, a great place to eat before hiking in the Highlands. They fill their bags with a perfect adventurer’s lunch: a sausage roll and two sandwiches, one venison, one smoked trout. Now that the packed lunch is sorted, the second hike can begin. As Ewan says, “Scotland has the most beautiful scenery. There’s something about the air, color, and remoteness of it all.” Nowhere can this be more felt than the Cairngorms. Snowy in winter, purple with heather in summer, the dramatic peaks of the U.K.’s largest National Park draw outdoorsy types and are often named in “best places to visit” lists. The brothers then make a detour to Taymouth Marina, the lochside “wild wellness” retreat, with family friendly water sports, Loch Ness Monster pedalo boats for kids, a giant trampoline, and the resort’s biggest draw: its HotBox Spa. The brothers brave the “wellness plunge” (a slide into the freezing loch), warming up afterwards in Scotland’s largest hot tub. As the evening draws in, it’s time to rest and toast marshmallows at The Dell of Abernathy. Set deep in the forest, this collection of six stone cottages has been decked out with impeccable taste— an ideal place to stay in the Highlands for large or small groups. Experiences include supper clubs and meditation rituals, swimming in the black peat-soaked loch, and gathering by the firepit. To round off the day, the brothers head to a local favorite—a live music night at the The Ewe Bar within the Fortingall Hotel, a listed building with 11 rooms, traditional Scottish interiors and a 2,000-year-old yew tree, which, according to local legend, is the oldest tree in the U.K. But will they see the northern lights? Local Lens: David Chang’s guide to Koreatown, Los Angeles
12 ene 2024
Travel doesn't always mean leaving your city! ✈️ Explore the vibrant scene of Koreatown in Los Angeles, where you can find incredible "korean food" and a lively atmosphere. This "los angeles travel guide" highlights the best "things to do in los angeles", making it a must-visit for any "foodie" looking for delicious "street food" and unique experiences. Chef David Chang shows us his Koreatown: Restaurants for the best dumplings, soup, short ribs and dessert Read our interview: https://expedia.com/magazine/local-lens-david-chang-guide-koreatown/ According to David Chang, there are five reasons people visit Koreatown: the spas, karaoke, parties, music concerts, and of course—the delicious Korean food. From his own Momofuku chain to Netflix’s Ugly Delicious, Chang has built a restaurant and TV empire on being an equal opportunities food obsessive. If tastes good, it is good. Naturally, we begin our Koreatown tour by sampling the food. We start at Ham Hung, a restaurant known specifically for Pyongyang naengmyeon, a chewy buckwheat noodle soup. We then head next door to Myung In Dumplings for the freshly steamed, baseball-sized buns; and finish up at MuMu Bakery for an enormous cream cheese-topped iced coffee and taiyaki—a custard-filled pastry dessert. To work up an appetite for dinner, Chang plays golf at the four-floor, netting-encased driving range, Aroma Golf. Then, time for spicy galbi-jjim, braised short ribs, at Sun Nong Dan with local friends, musician Rekstizzy and artist Dumbfoundead. We round off the day with a drink at the kitsch bar H.M.S. Bounty, which embodies some of K-Town’s old-school Hollywood glamour.
