Air India crash victims demand answers | Global News Podcast

Relatives of those who died in the Air India plane disaster have been marking the first anniversary by keeping vigil at the site in Ahmedabad. Flight 171 crashed just 32 seconds after takeoff, killing 260 people. One man onboard survived. Air accident investigators say a final report on the cause of the disaster will be released once all its work has been completed. But many families of the victims have been voicing their frustration with the process, and the lack of answers they have been offered. Some have yet to receive the remains of their loved ones to hold a proper burial. We speak to the BBC's Azadeh Moshiri who is at the site in Ahmedabad. Will opposition to data centres remake the political landscape in America? These enormous buildings are being built to house the computers that process and store the huge amounts of data that AI companies work with. But in places such as Utah, where a 62 square mile data centre has been approved, voters are voicing their concerns. These concerns range from the environmental impact; the effect on property prices and electricity costs; the constant noise and the aesthetic impact of these enormous buildings on the landscape. This opposition is bi-partisan - affecting both Democrat and Republican voting areas and politicians in Washington have started to take note. Democrat Senator Bernie Sanders has sponsored a bill calling for the immediate moratorium on the building of new data centres, arguing that the federal government needs time to better regulate the AI industry. Trump claims deal to end Iran war near, but Tehran says 'nothing' finalised | BBC News

Iran has insisted that a final decision on an agreement to end the current conflict with the US has not yet been reached, despite President Donald Trump again claiming a deal was likely to be signed imminently. President Trump had declared the US would strike Iran "very hard" again on Thursday, but later said he was cancelling the strikes because negotiators had "just made a great settlement" with Iran. He told reporters it was "subject to finalisation of documents, which should get done, over the next few days" and that there would "probably" be a signing ceremony in Europe. But Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said reports of an agreement were "speculative" and "nothing has been finalised". The latest scandal involves Fifa dropping Somali referee Omar Artan, after the US refused him entry. Fifa‘s president Gianni Infantino said “we don't control everything”, and asked critics to "chill". US Customs and Borders protection said in a statement that “derogatory information, including association with suspected members of terror organisations” was discovered after Omar Artan landed at Miami International Airport to attend the tournament. Artan says he told border officials he knows nothing about the Somali militant group Al Shabab. Violence broke out across Belfast with homes and vehicles set on fire following a knife attack in the north of the city on Monday night. A man is in hospital with serious wounds after the attack, and a 30-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder. Hadi Alodid, who is Sudanese, was arrested at the scene and appeared in court on Wednesday. He was remanded into custody. Politicians and police have called for calm after people took to the streets across the city, with some reporting that residents were targeted based on their skin colour. On 12 June 2025, a London-bound Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad in western India, killing at least 260 people, including 241 passengers and crew on board. Investigators have yet to publish their final findings into the cause of the crash. A preliminary report into the incident from India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau found both of the plane's fuel switches moved to the "cut-off" position "immediately" after take-off, stopping fuel supply to the engine.
